Hi Guys, recently replaced an injector in my golf and it hasn't fixed the problem. I heard today that some manufacturers make it so that the injector has to be programmed in order to work, apparently Ford do so. Is this just for Fords or do VW have a similar policy?
thanks for any help in advance

How would you program a injector. Whats wrong with your car to say its a injector. Does it get power and have you had the inlet mainifold off ? a air leak on one cylinder made me think my injector was not working until i removed the inlet mainifold and there was a washer behind it. i blame my old man rushing me.

thanks for your reply. I had a misfire so ran diagnostics and it came back with the code relating to the injector/ injector wiring. I don't mean program the injector, i'm not really sure how it works i just heard that apparently for fords it has to be done by a dealer. i posted previously on this forum about the issue, I replaced the injector, and ever since the electrical connection to the injector has been getting fuel in it, in all cylinders despite the fact i didn't touch any other connectors. It's as if the fuel rail is over pressurised and fuel is leaking through the injector. the car doesn't run any differently - still misfires. I haven't driven it since i discovered the issue as there's obviously a bad problem. I'm thinking it must be a problem with the wiring harness but i don't know what to replace. can you buy a harness for one singe injector? or would i have to buy the whole wiring loom for all cylinders?
thanks in advance

Injector seat?

Injector seat?
That's what I thought at first as well.

Hi guys thanks for your replys, sorry i'm a bit new to this, is the injector seat the part at the bottom of the injector? I literally just took out the old injector, and put the new one straight back in, nothing else came out/ went in. Could this be the cause of the misfire? or just causing the over pressurizing of the fuel?
thanks again

I would expect that you have got to give it a good tug to get it in/out of the rail.
As far as I know, I don't think these gen are coded. However as good practise, i took note of which ones I took out so they all went back in the right order.
On the manifold behind the injectors...is it stained? Try and take a pic and post it up. But sounds light the seats are weeping.

A good tug to get the injector seat off the fuel rail? So should I take off the inlet manifold, then remove all the injectors? I'll post up a picture later
Thanks for your help

The injector seats are what the injectors "sit" into on the inlet manifold

I don't think you will get the seats out with a tug. Certainlly the injectors.
I took the fuel rail off first, twisted it around and then pulled the injectors. Its a bit fiddley as wires run trough the fuel rail. There was one wire which went to the behind the front bumper (possibly outside tmep sendor) which stopped me taking the rail off.
I would take the manifold off last and I plugged the cylinder holes as soon as I took it off to stop crud falling in. I found it easy to rip up a carrier bag in half and plug it with that.

The injector seats are threaded so would need to be twisted off. Ideally you need a huge hex bit to get them out.

  I ended up having to shave a 21mm wheel nut in order to get them off. I tried every (shoop wise) to get one without any luck. I think ebay have them tho.

Okay cool, i'll do that, so do you think it is the injector seats that are causing the over pressurising? my problem is that even if i can fix this problem, I still have a misfire that is being caused by something to do with the injectors.
thanks for all the help! it's much appreciated.

A leaking injector seat would cause a fuel leak from the injector area

right okay, i can't see any fuel leaks anywhere around the injector, it only leaks through the electrical connector :/

Here are some photos, In this photo: http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag332/jamieisafish/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zps9dd30ce2.jpg
you can just about see the fuel in the electrical connector.
This photo isn't great but again it's of cylinder 4 where the misfire is: http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag332/jamieisafish/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zps886d854a.jpg
Cylinder 1 also has fuel in the connector as well. The injectors aren't leaking from anywhere else

What engine is it?

2.0l 8v gti

Did you replace the little rubber 'o' rings on the top and bottom of the injectors?
-
Yep the replacement injector came with new o rings so yeah I replaced them.
