Hi guys. My car was delivered with two standard VW keys without the metal GTI insignia on the bottom. The dealership has FINALLY got hold of them and I picked them up this afternoon. The parts guys had headed off for the evening and now I'm left to change these over myself.
Does anyone know how to open the new style of key up and has anyone else suffered the from the same situation?

The fob comes apart but your better off reading the page in the manual, it's actually quite good and clear.

I have standard keys as well. Very poor
Your supposed to have the gtd bits on the bottom of the key.

I had exactly the same situation. Both keys were handed over without the metal GTI insignia attached although both metal parts were in with the handbook. I had a look at trying to change them but you need a tiny torx screwdriver to remove the plastic ones which I don't have. In the end I just haven't bothered changing them and kind of forgotten all about it until now.

should be part of the pdi..if they have not done that bit properly, what else have they not done right?!
sloppy dealers should be pulled up about it..luckily mine did it right

I did mine. If I ever wind up at a party where car keys are going in a bowl I don't want the ladies to think I've got a Passat or something
Suggestion on how to avoid messing around with the tiny torx screws here:

I only got one. Which mechanic has put the other on his mk5 or 6 key

The girl that I picked the car up from (the guy I signed the paperwork with 'doesn't work there anymore') had no idea.
Anyway put a large flat headed screwdriver where the switch blade sits in the closed position and prize the case off. Then as the guy said earlier you'll need a really tiny torq screwdriver.
The keys should come with GTI keys. They look much better and have far nicer weight to them

My salesman did mine when I picked it up. IIRC you use the other key fold the blade out put it in the side of the other key and twist the key comes apart and then undo the torx screw and swap over the bottoms. It took him about a minute to do.
