Just renewed with Greenlight today so I'm covered :smug:
-
Haha im from Haverhill and thats my cousin in the backround and his lupo.
-
does wheels count as a modification being vw audi wheels still?
-
I told mine I got optional extra alloys, so they know they are not standard but still VW wheels
-
I actually got checked out once, had been pulled loads of times and nothing said, finally declared and then two weeks later they checked it down in Kent.
-

If it didn't come out of the factory on them then it's classed as a modification.
-
Better chuck things on that not, what's the harm in being extra careful? A few quid more on a premium to avoid criminal offences, insurance declined and a whole world of hurt?
Although, the above article sure sounds like a bit of entrapment to me...
-
All declared here. Mind you it's in the garage so they won't be checking anything anyway.
-
Sky insurance is really good for the m3 guys. Hardly any difference from standard car to modified.

yeh they are good iv just reinsured my mk3 20vt with them and isnt much more than the standard car with any of the comparison websited that i checked
-
Sky are my insurers too. Best price by miles and basically the mods cost nothing to add on over standard.
-
I'll definitely give them a go when I renew. I've only declared the mods you can actually see lol
-
Mods, what mods???
-
Mods, what mods??????
:lipsrsealed:
Dont think anything on mine is classed as a mk4 golf 1.4E. That has boggy spec windy windows!
insurers will run out of paper when i tell them everything different on mine

greenlight are spot on too. covered stage 1 remap for no extra. Can't grumble at that.
-
All declared for me too, with Adrian Flux.
Just less than £200 now as well, I feel old!
-
Brentacre and worked out cheaper, first insurance company I'm 'fully' legit with aswell  Cars actually got a legitimate MOT too

Id happily feel old if my insurance was that cheap!!
-
I agree with all of the article with the exception of:
Four vehicles were issued with Fixed Penalty Notices for their non-standard exhaust systems exceeding the legal sound readings.
What legal sound readings? There is no set legal sound limit in this country and a Lidl car park with a sound meter is not going to get an accurate reading even if there was one.
-
The legal limit for exhaust noise is 100db
-
Modified exhaust systems
It’s illegal to modify the exhaust system to make a vehicle noisier after it has been ‘type approved’ (checked it meets environmental and safety standards).
The police can also take action if your vehicle’s silencer doesn’t work in the way it was designed or if you’re driving in a way that creates too much noise.
https://www.gov.uk/noise-pollution-road-train-plane/vehicle-noise-limits
A bit vague?
-
The legal limit for exhaust noise is 100db
From? I've never seen it written down anywhere. C&U only mentions a limit for fresh built kit cars.
-
i have heard there is a limit, but imo, you could just argue that you never take it up to high revs on the road or some bs.

Ha well it is a social/domestic only, limited miles, lives on a driveway policy as well which helps
I was worried this time around that the price might have gone up with the (stupid) new rules about not being able to give females cheaper quotes but thankfully that doesn't seem to have happened.

To be honest I cant complain, Im 22 have business use with 15k of miles in a car park only 3 years NCB and pay £600

What is classed as a faulty interior light?
And what offence are you committing if it doesn't work
-

a light that does not work its classed as  and the only offence your committing is being stupid enough to ask
-
Fair enough, but it's worded like its a major criminal offence and dangerous to have a faulty interior light lol
The one in my mk2 hasn't worked in years

never declared any mods on any of my cars, ive never had an issue. always seems to double the premium so i never bother
on that article as well, if i read it right, the police didnt charge anyone with anything to do with their mods. simply told the insurance companies ? if thats all that happens then ill gladly not declare my mods

erm, and when the insurance companies found out about all the un-declared mods ?
you think they just sent them an early chrimbo card ?

-
would of put their insurance up obviously. but id rather pay the scum bags if and when i have too rather than up front every year. they charge enough as it is anyway!
-
 is that all you think ?

thats all that happened to a friend who was put in that situation last year. what do you recon happened then ? article doesnt say
-
Don't declare you mods and see how much your insurance pays out when they find out, a friend of mines bike was written off in a no fault accident, when the other drivers insurer come out to assess the damage to the bike they seen an aftermark exhaust, as this wasn't declared on his insurance the other company claimed he was not riding in accordance with his policy so was not insured. As he was now not insured the other company would not pay a penny for his bike
Just shows it might not be your fault but you still might be paying the full bill for your repairs
-
with the above post, i find that a bit confusing. if hes claiming off the other person insurance, his insurance has nothing to do with it, they wouldnt even get involved if the other party admitted full liability
-
If you crash into someone who is not insured is your insurance company going to pay for an illegal driver to have their car fixed or are they going todo as all insurance companies do and try and find away to reduce how much they have to pay out?
-

yeah i know im not arguing with what you said, they will get out of paying in anyway they can. just going off experiences i know of on forums etc in a lot of cases the non fault persons insurance has not come into it at all
-

You not tried shopping around then?? I found my modified policy was cheaper than a bog standard one
Also what happens when someone hits you and the insurance company wont pay you a penny because your policy is void?
Have a happy easter
-

Out of interest who are you insured with? There are lots of specialist companies around, greenlight insure me with all my mods and it's not much more expensive that the cheapest quote on go compare with a standard car.
-
Damn Rhys, beat me to it
-
admiral multicar at the minute, literally shopping around now after reading this thread trying to find a decent price with everything declared.
i do shop around, but last year non of the independent places would cover me so had to go through comparison site. added coilovers and exhaust on compare the market and the premium went from £450 to £1300
-
When i was with admiral, i declared my mods (exhaust, brakes & suspention mods) it only went up by 50 squids
-
I'm with admiral, with exterior changes exhaust non standard alloys went up by less then £20 and when ask for a quote for remap and intake I was less then £20 again so for £40 I think its worth it that's on a £600 policy

First and foremost, you're a bellend. Anyone who thinks it's ok to drive around without declaring mods is a complete moron. Regardless of the fact you have paid Admiral, you are not currently insured. If you hit someone, and an assessor picks up on any/all mods to your vehicle, they WILL tell your insurer who will then not pay out to you.
If you can't afford the insurance due to mods, or don't want to pay it, then don't do the mods.
Also, I'd suggest amending your posts as considering you have just openly said on a public forum that you haven't declared mods you could find yourself in a bit of bother.
I wonder what Admiral would make of this. **Goes to ring them now.**

Not really bothered about being a wayne kerr. I'm making a valid point, and at the end of the day, insurance companies don't give a sh!t so long as they have your money. So why risk potentially not getting paid out for things that generally don't make a difference to premiums. If they know, you're covered. End of.

Why do you think I asked which company he was with

Too many snitches here
-
I've had to use my insurance twice now. They definitely aren't that clued up on what you actually do and don't have
-
+1 on them not being clued up.
my mate crashed his old 206 that was modified, nothing declared, someone came out to check the car and said the only thing that wasnt stadard was a sticker :D
however, i suspect that when the police told the insurance companies most of there policies will have been canceled...
as for your friend getting told he only had to pay a little extra money, he was lucky, cause not many companies would do that.
