Guys I've started to lose track of all the forum users from N.Ireland, we seem to have a few now. Please identify yourselves for some local banter

Another here as well. Hi.

Unfortunately haven't had the chance to get on here lately but noticed last night the mud flaps have become available for the GTI so picked up a set for £90 from the dealers this evening... Just need the motivation to fit them now

Seem to be a good few GTI's/ GTD's in the Lisburn area. Spotted a white as well as black GTD this evening along with a red GTI.

Rossc0 when do you get the R? I see Agnews have a 5 door white R @ Boucher. It looks the nuts as I drive past it each morning...

Aye bought it in Edwin Mays
Ballymena men in general love the diesel. Can't move for D turbos round here
Take it the rest of you probably bought from Agnews?

Post by: mk7gti on 05 April 2014, 22:12
Yeah I used to buy from Liam in Edwin Mays but of late they have been too expensive. Who did you deal with VWTM545?

PS Hows the new showroom looking I haven't been in of late to see it after the renovations?
Title: Re: N.Ireland Owners?
Post by: VWTM545 on 05 April 2014, 22:20
Bought through Jonathan.
I got them down to be cheaper than Agnews! They didn't want to deal with me. They maybe thought I was a time waster due to my young age!

The show room is looking good, it's no bigger though!

I bought from England (Kent) and drove it back - saved thousands (prob around £4.5k in the end after selling MK6 privately and discount taking in all expenses).
Agnews didn't want to give any discount but hounded me for weeks by phone to get my order. Sent them a (partially blanked out) copy of my order from mainland dealer which shut them up finally!
Other local dealers were not making any move on price either at the time (May last year).

Aye dealers over here don't like dropping prices! I got a good bit off mine in October, but that's due to having bought my old car through them and a few others in the family!
Was it much hassle getting it in England?

Jonathan is a nice guy and a great dealership  Any pics of the wagon VWTM545? I will have to keep an eye out for you as I would be in Ballymena quite often...

Probably 3-4 months I'm guessing...only ordered recently

None at all - I have family in Kent and went to their local dealer when I was over last May. This turned out to be the 'main' DTD dealer lol.
Using broker sites from now on for any more new cars I have the fortune to buy - its really no hastle for potential major savings.
Just got the ferry back. Bit of a long drive back but worth it (9hrs to Cairnryan).

That's interesting! I might consider doing that of I get another new car!
That's a long drive but sure it would've been run in nicely!

Just under 500 miles in 9hrs (long story but wasn't meant to be as intense a run in but to cut a long story short the weather cancelled a few ferries).

It was indeed. Stressful with plans changing on a long trip I'd never done before but the car was excellent - even though I only stopped for just over half and hour during the whole 9 hours I didnt have nay aches or pains and felt quite fresh once I got to the ferry

That does sound stressful. I drive to Derry everyday and that's an hour and 15 each way, and the car is amazing.
The cruise control is brilliant for the Glenshane

Funnily enough I travel between Derry & Belfast once/twice a week. ACC is great for the bits of the road you know there are little/no overtaking opportunities (from the end of mway to Toome bypass etc...).
Glenshane is a breeze in the GTD - feels like its never going to run out of power blasting up the hill.

Must look out for you aswel. I tend not to fly to much on the glenshane now! I picked up some very nasty stonechips on my old car, including a cracked windscreen!

I got the opposite feeling from them tbh, they were practically begging for the business.

I low-balled them by bringing in a quote from carwow and they matched it with ~10% off!

Currently have an oynx white mk6 GTI

I wanted a 3dr, DSG with keyless entry, lapis blue and advanced phone connection.

Tempted by the pro nav screen, but it's a lot of money as is the cow hide seats. Cloth are just fine for me, and look the dogs danglies.

I bought my GTD from England too. All the local dealers were quoting 4 to 6 months delivery times, found out agnew mallusk had one in the showroom. They wouldn't shift as far on the discount as I wanted, another 2% or so would have done it but they thought they had me as they had a physical car. They seemed pretty shocked when I walked out, came home and ordered a car that night in England from the dealer on here who are forum sponsors. Went really smooth, the car was on its way to them and it arrived with them about 10 days later. Rather  than go myself I got a transport company to pick it up, they collected it on a Thursday morning and it was sitting on my drive by 5.00pm the next day. All very smooth and easy and a great price. Had a warranty issue in the early days which Edwin May were more than happy to handle so that went good too.

Go shopping across the pond seems the message for a good deal and use something like Carwow to see what you should be aiming for.

Just out of interest - how much did the transport cost? was it covered transport or just a spot on a big car trailer?

It was just a normal car transporter but they came highly recommended by a dealer I know who use them all the time. Depends a bit on what part of country the car is, mine was Cheltenham and cost me £380. I used Eamon McLaughlin from Greysteele and they were excellent. Have also used Woodside on other occasions who were great too but for this one they were a bit more expensive.

As with dealers here there are good times to go car shopping in England and they are different months to here. For example January here is a mega month but in England it's mega quiet as is February as everyone over there wants to wait for the reg change in March. That means dealers should be hot for a deal in those months as they won't be shifting much metal.

Sounds a great spec silver, when are you getting it?

They wouldn't go to 10% for me but it wasn't as highly a specced car and also was in the showroom with another person looking at it on the day I was there so they probably felt in a strong position. They also lied about the discount percentage they were giving when I worked it out on my phone it left the salesman rather red faced.
