Title: What are the chances?
Post by: MoMartin on 03 April 2014, 21:35
Hi, I've got a 2000 plate mk4 AGU 1.8t Golf, and the guy i bought it off said that he has had it remapped just by plugging it into the odb port, without removing the ecu - By a "mate". How believable is this? because the ECU in the AGU isn't programmable unless the chip is changed (or so i've heard), and i really don't believe that he changed the chip in it, so that he could get it remapped.

Thanks, Mo

It can be mapped through the OBD port but not by Joe Public....

Just as i expected. I'm going to take it to a place tomorrow who will tell me whether it'll be an odb job, a bench job, or a job that involves removing the chip.

It's usually the very early AGU's that need a chip soldering in. If it helps mine is an 018 CG ECU and can be done through the port, have a look and see what yours is as chances are whoever you speak to will need to know the number anyway

Well hopefully that has shed some light on the situation, if it's only the really early ones. Where would I find this code btw?
