Title: Help needed fitting milltek exhaust
Post by: Bfstrachan on 03 April 2014, 09:22
I have a 2002 1.8t AUM. Just got a milltek twin pipe backbox and centre silencer (2.5"). What do I need in order to fit this to the standard cat? The bit I am not sure about is the section between the centre and rear silencers. Looks like the original pipe has to be cut. Can I use this cut out section to join the new parts or are the diameters different? Don't want to get stuck in and find I can't finish the job because sections don't fit. Any advice would be appreciated - thanks!

So you've got a full cat-back Milltek then? If so it should come with a 2.5" - 2.25" reducer to join to the cat.

The old system is a single pipe from the cat so you've got 2 options, first is to drop the rear beam to remove it, second is to cut it close to the rear beam and remove it in 2 sections. I went for the latter when I fitted mine.

+1 Dom, on my old mk4 I cut the pipe around the rear beam

Thanks for that. I don't have the full kit from milltek, just the centre and back sections. I have been buying parts as they come up. I have no reducers or clamps. Just the 2 sections mentioned above. The section of pipe that runs between the two was my issue - can I adapt the factory one to fit or do I need to find a specific part to join the centre and back boxes?
Thanks in advance.

It might be easier to get an exhaust place to fabricate the pipe up, is it the curved piece that you are missing?

If you email or ring milltek direct they will sell you the part but it won't be cheap. They were easy rondeau with when I needed bits replacing quick service too.

Will update later...

Change of plan. I can get the part cheaper direct from Milltek - £45! My only issue now is finding a reducer to fit the centre silencer to the cat? Looks like I need to go from 2.25 (cat exit) to 2.50 (Milltek centre pipe).
Anyone happen to know where to source such a thing? Milltek won't supply the separately, but did suggest buying a £95 pipe that comes with the reducer!
Any thoughts?

They sold me the reducer and all the clamps I needed. I think it was about 25quid but I don't have a decent exhaust shop anywhere near me.

Got a lead from milltek and phoned "roadrunner Motorsport" in Nottingham and they will supply everything I need axle pipe, reducer and clamps for £69 - well chuffed! They are now on their way. Should get a chance during the Easter break to get things fitted :)
Thanks for pointers everyone. I am new to owning a golf 1.8t and checking out this forum is a great source of info. Used to run a mk2 scirocco, but changed for the golf.
Thanks again.

Glad you've got it sorted, if it all falls through I've got a reducer in the shed somewhere that came with mine. I have no use for it as mine joins up to a 3" decat pipe.
