Title: Adjusted Shock Absorbers
Post by: LJS7 on 01 April 2014, 22:03
Hello

Since I got the GTI back in November I noticed intermittent mechanical/grinding noises coming from the front wheel areas whilst turning at slow speeds (manoeuvres etc).

Took it into VW last week and apparently the shocks were clipping so they adjusted them.

The noise has pretty much disappeared except at full lock.

My brother got his GTI a couple of weeks back but when i took it out yesterday I noticed a similar noise, if not worse.

Is it feasible that the shocks could be catching / rubbing?

Thanks

sounds more like the earlier issue of the transport blocks on the shocks not all being removed

Or a seized shock mount bearing that isn't allowing the shock assembly to pivot properly.

I had rubbing / creaking noises from the steering as part of the shock mount problem that also included a grinding noise on full lock.  Replacement of both shock mounts and their bearings fixed it.

I'm getting a bit of a "clonk" over bumps / small potholes - is this normal?

Nope – are you sure the transport pucks were removed by the dealership?

Adjusted?

What adjustment is there? Ask them to be specific, I'd be very interested to hear...
