My GTD was specced with the RCD 510 from new. It also makes the sound you describe, but not every few minutes; only occasionally. I've never had any issues with it draining or flattening the battery though.

No idea mate.  Have you searched the threads in the car audio section or this section.

A quick search came up with these.  Have a read through, might shed some light on it.  Second link is for RNS 510 but should be same for RCD 510 unit

Ah i don't have those it works fine and shows climatronic and everything else just makes a noise like its trying to load a cd every so often which seems weird to me why is it doing it?

Is it making this noise regardless of which mode it's in, i.e. media, phone, radio?

Have you tried shoving a cd/cd's in, maybe it will stop it searching for one.  Then just switch it to an alternative source if you don't want the cd to play.

It does it with no power as in stereo off or no key in ignition

I retro fitted my RCD510. It doesn't make any strange sounds at all. No coding, I just plugged it in.

My RCD510 makes a noise when i take the keys out of the ignition, sounds like the CD changer inside is
resetting itself but it works perfect.
