I've just asked the same question over in UKmk3's so as expected it was particularly biased feedback i received so thought I'd get some more opinions here as well, basically I've got a little bit of money to use on car stuff but I've found myself in a dilemma...
Either spend the money on my current mk3 TDI wagon or use it along with the money I'd raise from selling everything mk3 i own to buy an Audi A4 TDI Avant?
Discuss!

I would love to say spend it on the wagon, but I would go Aldi!

The Audi will be standard whereas the Golf will be to your taste.
No brainer IMO = the Wagon!

More funds will come along and you will have money to play with it.
It's a mk3 so you'll end up replacing things that brake constantly, in the end.

Just to add ive also been looking at mk1 Seat Leon TDI PD130 /150 which ive always liked although the boot space will be a bit smaller than the mk3 wagon and A4 Avant.

Well no contest! If you can live with less boot space go for the Leon!

What year avant though? A subtly modded avant will always look better than a G-wagon

About 03-04 ish although the model before can look pretty sweet dropped down on nice rims as well.

It's a valid point, especially I feel fairly competant around mk3's now and ive shed full of spares...hmm

I have an 01 1.9TDI avant and it's perfect for lugging sh!t about, going quite quick and not really having to do much in the way of maintenance plus gives 50+mpg. They have bags of torque when mapped and can be modded quite a bit for under £200 quid.

Sounds good to me.
I did something I never thought id do today...I looked at mk4's, albeit in TDI varient guise. :lipsrsealed:
My logic been that I could buy something cleaner than my current mk3 and with more power out of the box and still have some money to spend on tweaking.

I am taking delivery of a 54 1.9 TDI Avant in the next month or so.
I think its only 130bhp but it shames the Mk3 in performance and comfort and feels really quite planted, got to get used to driving an auto again but for the price and mint condition I cant say no, one previous owner my dad
I think he's doing it to get rid of all my MK2 and Mk3 stuff from his garage
I am not sure what it would get with a remap, doubt I will spend the money on it as I'm tight

I've literally just been looking into remapping the PD130 and should expect at least 170bhp depending on the tuner and how much you want to push the turbo and clutch...some claims are much higher but aren't worth doing without at least upgrading the clutch and running a FMIC instead of the SMIC.
I'm happy with that for starters.

Well mine will be an auto so no need to worry about a clutch......
