Title: Airbag error warning light
Post by: FNJ-GTI on 28 March 2014, 16:37
Hi. Today I installed a dashcam following Vidman2 guide to the fuses and also rikwebbs guide to install the cam. Ive got it all plugged in and working correctly. The problem is that now when I start the car I get a bong noise and an airbag error warning. I had to unplug the passenger side airbag from the side panel when I removed the panel to feed the wires through. Ive plugged it back in and I can switch it on and off using the switch on the side panel. The lights next to the hazards switch show it to be going on and off So I don't know why I'm getting the error. Could it be because I unplugged the passenger one its thrown up a fault?

Any advice would be great before I head down to the dealers. Thanks.

If you switched the ignition back on whilst the airbag harness was disconnected (for instance to test your Vidcam), then the ECU would have stored an airbag fault. This will need clearing either by the dealer (however they may charge you as it's not warranty), or find someone local to you with VCDS who can clear the fault code from the ECU.

Until this is done, the car will still assume an airbag fault and disable that unit and warn you on screen.

Phew. Thanks sootchucker. I was hoping it was something like that. I did turn on the ignition with the passenger airbag unplugged. Pleased to know its not something I've messed up when fiddling with the fuses. Thank you.
