First thing I'm new on this forum.
My car is: 20v 1.8t mk4 GTI
Right, problem is my car won't get to 90 degrees and then stay there like they should.
I had an eml on so scanned it and it said coolant temp sensor.
So after replacing it still not getting to temp.
So on the way to work today I tailgated a car for a bit and it goes up slightly.
When driving norm it stays around 70 ish.
And if you get it tick over on idle she slowly goes to 90 and the doesn't go further.
So ether thermostat or water pump.
Anyone got any insight on this!

Ah, nice to have that confirmed! Not to fix it :)

Buy from the dealers don't be tempted with cheap GSF or eurocarparts thermostats they're complete junk. While you're in there you might save yourself some potential headaches by getting a new thermostat housing at the same time.. they tend to warp over time and dribble coolant even with some sealant behind them.

Just to reiterate what Topher says, I fitted a cheap Thermostat last year and it failed in less than 2 weeks!
