Title: remapps
Post by: gazmondo35 on 27 March 2014, 21:42
Does anyone have any inside information when the likes of Apr ,revo etc will be doing remaps, I'll come from a mapped mk5 gti to a mk7 gti pp & i'm finding it ok , but the Mrs finds it bit slow on the motorway having to change gear all the time, I don't want to go down the plug in route having to swap it out every time it goes In for a service but might have no choice, happy wife happy life & all.

I've been told that Revo & APR have given up trying to develop a remap for the mk7 as VW have encrypted the ECU which is apparantly uncrackable :( I think it's the end of "real" remaps and the only options are piggy backing a tuning box through DTUK with the Shark software. They're good enough though and only take 10 minutes to take out. On stock hardware you should hit 280bhp and a healthy ride in torque to around 420nm from 350.

Change gear all the time? Really? Isn't max torque available from 70mph in 6th Gear on the MK7 PP? (Approx. 280 lb/ft max - so only 20 lb/ft down on a tweaked MK6)?

If she needs to constantly drop down the box (presumably to blast past slower traffic as it pulls out of her way) your fuel consumption must be horrific!

I never look at MPG, but we never get more than 320 miles to a tank ,  which is 20 miles better off than the mk5, would be interested to know if that's on par with everybody else. Forgot to mention it's dsg.

Oh well on a DSG (like mine) - if you give it more than a 40-50% prod of the throttle - it'll drop a couple of cogs! Even on the motorway!

If she wants it to "lug" 6th gear and use the torque, then I suppose it's about being more sensitive with the throttle, or putting it in another "mode" (like comfort or Eco) ... Of course more power and torque never hurt .....

I find myself keeping it @ 3k revs in 5th gear @ 70 if I am going to overtake. Thats why I am looking at the DTUK option for extra grunt.

I think the problem is very low rpm in 6 gear @70mph , I think my diesel astra feels faster, but have still only covered 1000 miles so it might loosen up a bit , plus i have the heaviest of golf gti with it being 5 door, dsg&pp. The DTUK is definitely on the cards
