Title: b!tch is misfiring.
Post by: sharki786 on 27 March 2014, 14:39
My 8v gti is misfiring. It was fine but i have been having starting issues in mornings but does eventually start only in cold. So i took my battery off to clean the earth points under battery. Anyway i turned ignition on for 30 secs then back off then stated car. Now car misfires on low revs. I will check spark plugs and leads. Anything else to check?

first port of call I woul say is check plugs, then leads, then dizzy contact points and arm, the king lead and coil. if issues is still there then go down the lines of checking fuel, I recon its coil or dizzy

Sparkies are just a year old. Took each lead off and the engine did stuggle. Took maf off while started but as soon as i reconnected it the engine cut out.

Not yet as its raining and laptops battery is poo so need extension. It revs fine after 2k all the way into the redline. It feels like a 1ltr when in low revs and i put my foot down its like missfiring. Sounds like its not running on all cylinders

Spray wd40 over coil and dizzy, sounds like moisture.

when you say sparkies are just over a year old, what do you mean? if you mean plugs replace em, I do mine every 10k, moisture is a high bet but weird it only started after the batter was removed

If it was the coil the wouldnt start at all, the coil has died on me twice before, were i drove into a petrol station got fuel went to start the car and all it did was turn over and wouldnt fire AA came down and said its coil pack. The coil pack i have is a beru one (so its genuine as its a premium 1 and is made hy bosch) I took elec cleaner spray to all off the connections (knock sensor & crank sensor) sparkies are brown and had a bit of black soot on the white ceramic bit. Swapped leads with another set and still misfiring. Took it to my unc and he said the timing is out as its pinking like hell even going down hill it pinks. The distribution cap & rotar arm look good and clean not corrosion.
i spoke to another mechanic and said to him all i did was take battery off clean earthing points under it and replace it. It misfires worse at 1100 revs. If im rolling in 3 or 4th and revs are 1100rpm the car will jerk like mad and pink till iv gone to 2k rpm. I know its not a coil. I aint going to splasb on another coil pack before getting it checked. I went to see mad4vws and used some spark leads he had laying around. After putting them on there was no differance to the misfire but he dont have a coil pack. So now im fooked.

Check the knock sensor if it's pinking.

Well i diconnected the knock sensor while the engine was running and connected it and nothing happened at all. I been on the car for 3 hrs. I took the battery off last night. Cleaned the earthing points under the battery, took throttle body off cleaned it all up (was a tiny bit dirty) put a new throttle body gasket on. Took the injector connectors off and sprayed some wd40. Took the coil pack off and cleaned the earthing strap and bolted it back up. I used sand paper to sand the earthing points. Sprayed elec connector spray every elec connecting point. Turn the ignition on and waited for 30-50 seconds, turned it back off and then turned ignition back on and started it. Then when toom it for a drive filled it up with vpower (as normal) then took it for a good ol blast. Pinked like fook though. But did rev all the way into redline.
my mechanic said if its pinking its the timing on the dizzy its prob retarted but i didnt touch that. So he tried to sort the dizzy but as normal its seized. So hows the best way to get that loosened?

Soo... took the b1tch into the garage today and my unc did a compression test. Not enough compression he thinks the timing has jumped. I didnt get a chance to check the timing out. But i have a good plan for it :lipsrsealed:
