Title: Vento beta stereo in mk2 gti
Post by: Munrohuna on 25 March 2014, 14:10
Hi, I have acquired a stereo from a early 90s vw vento from my uncle as my 90 spec gti had no stereo when I bought it. Now all the plugs fit straight in and the led from the vento radio starts flashing but apart from that the stereo is dead!
I have heard that some wiring needs modified in order to fit later stereos to a mk2 . Is this the case even though the vento 'beta' stereo is from roughly the same era?
Any help much appreciated.

You mean the red LED is flashing? This flashes when the key is out/stereo off as a security code warning.

All made by Panasonic (assembled by Matsush!ta) I believe and should not need to add additional wiring. You may just need to wire it in permanently. Putting a permanent feed to the memory (yellow) AND power (red).
