Title: Little details to finish it all off
Post by: andykram on 24 March 2014, 20:28
After nearly 2 1/2 years of ownership, a year having an engine refurb, a new steering rack and a seemingly never ending quest to cure the air hose leaks and get the damned thing to run right I might, just might, have nearly finished this seemingly never ending journey with the car.
I'm now down to the nitty gritty little details like getting the cigarette lighter to work and the rear wiper to work properly. So question one on the fag lighter (apologies if it's a dim, simple question) - can you remove it from the front to replace with a new one or do you have to remove the console first?
Question 2 - the rear wiper does work when you switch it on but it does one sweep, sits at the other side of the window, waits for 10 seconds then comes back. I suspect a loose wire. So my question is where is that loose wire likely to be and is it accessible? Both rear number plate lights work by the way as does the heated rear screen so not all is doom and gloom at the rear.
Sorry if these are easy questions for the pros on here but bearing in mind what this car has cost since I bought it I need to try and do a few things myself to keep the costs down.
Cheers in anticipation

Lossen the centre console off enough to get your hand around the back.  With the lighter removed and plug disconnected you should see the prongs from the metal housing.  Carefully bend these down while pushing the housing out. The metal ring should come out leaving the green plastic to be rotated and removed.  When replacing ensure the thin metal contact from the bulb touches the base.

As for the rear wiper - check the stalk and continuity of the wiring from wiper motor and stalk. Could also be a duff motor.
