Ive stumbled upon a thread that talks about fitting 40mm lowering springs to new anniversary shocks and the ride comfort was apparently no different !
Sorry if you get lost in this but this is what I got from the thread....
Anniversarys are 30mm lower than standard golfs so the comfort zone of the shocks are set at 30mm... so if you fit 40mm lowering springs you only 10mm over that tolerance which is fine, but can I push that 10mm further and fit 50mm springs which will only be 20mm lower than a standard anniversary ?? Retaining maximum comfort and getting the biggest drop possible on springs.
Question number 2 - if I fit these caps.... http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=131136338864 does that then make the shock piston travel a further 10mm into the shock or does it not make a difference. I cant get my head around it to be honest, or would polo mounts be better to reduce travel and lower it at the same time ?
Question 3 simply what bumpstops with 50mm drop ?

http://uk-mkivs.net/topic/14418-anniversary-shocks-kw-40mm-springs/ that is the thread, this is the bit to pay attention to .....
My theory behind all this was that the sports springs ( standard pd150 springs ) that were fitted to standard shocks were 20mm lower than standard springs so the 40mm lowering springs took the standard shocks out of there workable length.. but with the anniversary springs being 30mm lower than standard i took the chance of the 40mm KW springs working with the anniversary shocks which i found from the dealer were 10mm shoirter than standard shocks so in effect it would be like lowering a standard anniversary by 10mm which should still stay within tollerence of the working zone of the anni shocks.. ( if you understand and follow all that i will be surprised!! )
so judging by that my understanding is the standard golf 1.6 ect shares the same shocks as a gti. Right ? But the Gti is 20mm lower than your normal golf which is fine as the suspension is still within its limits! Then adding 40mm lowering springs to the equation will push the standard shocks a further 20mm out of there 'comfort zone' creating an aweful ride! No good .....
Now take the anni shocks they are coupled with 30mm factory springs and are fine this person added another 10mm drop with kw springs and they were fine. Now judging by the standard shock with gti springs numbers I can fit 50mm lowering springs to the anniversary shocks which will reduce travel by 20mm the exact same as what Gti springs do to standard shocks !
If you managed to make sense of that I am surprised lol but any input would be absolutely brilliant !!!

I can take a look at ETKA later and see what part numbers the shocks are across the engine range so you can really have a comparison and see what ones are the same
-
If you can mate that would be brilliant ! Does the logic add up ? I just wont comfy suspension again with a decent drop ! Im not trusting the weitec kit or the h&rs tbh as anything after market is going to be hard !
-
Yeah I totally get what you mean mate. I always thought the shocks I have (Bilstein B4 sports) were the Anni suspension but after reading that I'm not sure...
There are loads of shocks listed on ETKA and none that say specifically for the Anni
-
Ohhh no I cant find any part numbers on google either I think im just going to do it its got to be better than joms !
-
The front shocks are about a ton each!

front: 1J0 413 031 DQ
rear: 1J0 513 025 BH
Ring your dealer with an Anni number plate to check as well

Really its an old thread but the one I linked to up the page abit there 50ish plus vat !
