As some may have noticed I've taken my 90spec kit off my gti and started returning her to small bumper but today at work I'm having 2nd thoughts.
I've always preferred the 90 spec kit but with her being a f plate I've kind of wanted to have her as she should be, the problem is in doing so my rear end around the exhaust area looks wrong and it's bugging the hell out of me. There looks like there's been a section cut back on not replaced.
So now I'm thinking about sorting the rust out and re fitting the 90spec kit properly for a factory fit rather than the small bumper as small bumper will require more cash spending on it.
But what are people's personal preference
-
My preference is to leave them as they left the factory.
I prefer a big bumper car, which is why I bought a 1990 model. It's the car I wanted all those years ago. I wouldn't have bought an older car and dressed it up back then, so I don't like to see it done now.

Totally agree with dubber36

I do agree but I also have the problem that I have to run the car on a daily basis and I really want to take he back to small bumper but this is the problem area.

You can see at some point the valance has been cut back now the only option I have is cut and weld a repair panel in or treat rust paint and refit big bumper and hide it.

How did it leave the factory?

Really? Blimey. Where's your hazard switch? That's the givaway.
-
I've had a small bumper with the hazard on the steering column.

A GTI?

I had a 89 big bumper with hazard switch on dash, but was deff original big bumper as previous owner was my uncle and I remember falling in love with it as a kid when he picked it up brand new
-
its a personal choice really. my uncle likes the big bumpers and aint keen on the small. i would much rather the small ones and i am very tempted to swap them over from my old mk2. but with both cars being a different colour i just cant be a78ed.

On the steering column.
What's even rarer is that it's an original Bright Blue Metallic (LP5U) too. Not used until a while later!

Well this I going to split everyone, I've decide to go small bumper with red trim but retain the 90 spec arches as will covers make car look lower. Seen quite a few pictures with this combo and I really like it

Stick to your guns rich at the end of the day it's your car and you've got to enjoy driving it
