Just after opinions of roof boxes, having never owned one. Recently become a dad for the first time, and I'm staggered at the amount of gear one small person requires. Plus we have a dog.
Today we all went out in my current car for the first time (Golf Mk6) and with the dog in the boot we had to pop the pram behind the passenger seat.
This was fine on the way there, however on the way back, despite cleaning the wheels of the pram, it was unavoidable to get marks on the back of the front passenger seat and also dirt on the carpet/back seats.
When my GTD finally arrives, I don't want to have to lug a dirty pram in and out of the back of my pride and joy, so was looking at roof boxes so I can whack the pram and various shiz in there.
Anyone own one? I realise it'll knacker my mpg when using it but just after opinions, good brands, ones to avoid etc. Do VW have a genuine roof bar system or am I ok with universal types?

Hi Smorg00 - I have the same GTD 5 door that you're getting and I have Thule roof bars and roof works fine no problems - you could get some from Halfords but you get what you pay for and I'm pretty sure VW genuine bars are Thule anyway.

They seem to have some good packages

Thanks both for replying. I've been reading reviews and Thule do seem to have a good reputation. How do the roof bars fit to the Golf, Duroo72? Do you have a roof box? If so, what kind of size did you plump for?

Word on the street is VW ones are Mont Blanc rebranded

I have genuine vw roof bars and a thule pacific 600 roof box with 2 vw bike carriers all fit snugly on the roof of my mark 6 so I would of thought not much difference in roof sizes comparing marks 6and7
