Hi all, I have a Golf 2.0 8v ADY and noticed that if i pump the brakes the engine idle seems to go a tad irratic for a moment after. Doesnt stall but wondered if this is normal and if not whats the fix?

Normal as it the brake servo using the vacuum power of the engine

Worth checking for vac leaks if its bad

Thanks Screech although i havent noticed this on other cars including prev golfs etc being as heavy as this , maybe its just due to the sports exhaust it is more noticeable due to the noise it makes. I might as a precautionary measure check the vacuum pipes(crank case vent pipe) and give it a full service including rotor/distributor/leads as it does seem to breathe heavy and run slightly lumpy but none the less goes great!

Just to check where are the key vacuum hoses, ive noticed a short 2-3mm hose going from the throttle body that looks a little frayed around the edges that seems a quick fix, also one going from the air box to somewhere - is this for the brake servo?

Its done that in most of my cars,pump the brake pedal like mad and you can make the revs drop,my servo vacuum line connects to the intake manifold but mines 1.8t,fing all the little fabric covered ones like you describe and replace with 3mm id silicone

If you pump the pedal it will change the idle speed to some degree.
