I had mudflaps fitted yesterday and the rear ones seem odd.
They have a 'tab' sticking rearwards that is (I think) something that a bolt should go through to secure the flap to the valance.
On my GTD, there is a good 1-2 inch gap between the tab and the bodywork (see photos).
Could anybody who has a GTI/GTD with flaps let me know if theirs are the same?
Thanks

I'd say it's because the GTI rear diffuser is much larger, extending around the corners than the GTD one.

EDIT: I reckon you have the wrong rears fitted. Perhaps regular golf flaps would work on the rear?
-
Th instructions is seen at the dealers do have them being secured using that hole AFAIK

I guess that makes sense but surely if that is the case, there would be different GTI and GTD rear flaps?
-
I have just checked my GTi and can confirm that the GTi has a rear diffuser which fits perfectly into the hole in the mud flaps and then they are bolted to the bottom of the diffuser - I have the mud flaps but have not fitted them yet.
Despite that fact that the part number for the rear mud flaps says it is for both the GTi and GTd there are obvious differences.
I would go back to the dealer and complain, it is likely that the standard MK7 Golf rear mud flaps will fit the GTd if there is no diffuser at the rear - I suspect the part number listings are wrong.
1 Set Mudflaps (Left and Right) - Rear - GTI/GTD - 5GV 075 105
1 Set Mudflaps (Left and Right) - Front- GTI/GTD - 5GV 075 116
And for the regular non GTI/GTD models.....
1 Set Mudflaps (Left and Right) - Rear - - 5GV 075 101
1 Set Mudflaps (Left and Right) - Front- - 5GV 075 111

I've just had a look at the VW website and the rear diffuser on the GTI runs under the metal work right to the wheel arch whereas the diffuser on the GTD doesn't quite run that far forward.
At the highlighted point in the photo, the GTI will have about an inch or so thickness of diffuser that the GTD does not have.
I would suggest therefore that the GTI/GTD-specific rear flaps only really fit the GTI.
Not sure if the standard Golf's rear flaps would fit the GTD any better?
-
Can't believe that the fit is considered "reasonable" for the GTD by either VW for not designing GTD specific ones if the standard ones don't fit, or by the dealership fitting them. Strongly suspect that standard Golf rears would do the GTD, because it is not fitted anywhere near the side sill extensions that make GTI specifics front a necessity for the GTI and GTD, and rear diffuser for GTD is ery similar to, if not the same as standard Golf 7.

Why would anyone want to desecrate their new car with mudflaps  . These things went out of style in the 80's
-
From looking at the pictures it also looks like they have been cut/modified to fit except they are very poorly fitting. Go back and complain.

No, the rear flaps are molded like that. It definitely isn't the garage adapting them, they just don't seem to fit as they come out of the factory.
-
Is there not a hole in the rear flaps, surely that isn't how they come from the factory?
Has no one else got them fitted yet to compare. There were a few guys on here interested, I was about to order a set but may wait to see what other people get.
-
The GTD diffuser is the same as the standard Golf's, the GTI is different. Those cut-outs seen are to suit a GTI.
Pretty sure you need standard mudflaps on the back of a GTD, and GTI mudflaps on the front to get the proper fit.
Others have already said the same. Amazed that the dealership technicians didn't figure out that those rears fitted are just plain wrong. Some techs seem to have no common sense about them at all - doing exactly what the instructions from VW say (to the letter) and don't have enough practical engineering know-how to realise that what they've done is wrong and therefore their instructions are wrong.

There are now Ebay listings for MK7 GTi mud flaps from a VW dealer positively stating that they are not suitable for a GTd - get back to your dealer and insist they fit the right ones.

Cheers they are "looking into it" at the moment. I'll give them another day or two and then get back to them......

I emailed that dealer on Ebay. They confirmed a GTD needs the GTi fronts and the standard rears.
Anyone tried it yet?

I have the GTI fronts and they are a perfect fit. Still waiting to hear what the garage say about the rears. I'll give them until Monday and then get grumpy.

Saw a GTI at my local dealer tonight with mudflaps fitted. Looked like they were a perfect fit on it.
Still keen to get something for my GTD but would be keen to hear from anyone who has tried a standard set on the rear.
-
I collected my GTD last friday, and it came with mudflaps.
They are a perfect fit, but im not sure if they are standard or not, which doesn't really help.

Can I ask which dealer?

As above I would be interested in which dealer as I'm in NI also. Pics would be great too,
-
Edwin Mays Ballymena.
I haven't had a chance to take many pictures yet due to work/driving. Clocked up 800 miles in less than a week!
Ill see what I can do this weekend or this evening to help you guys out

Edwin Mays is a nice dealership who did you buy from VWTM545?

Pics look good to me. Will be ordering up a set soon. Spent two hours today getting one mudflap fitted today to my other car. It's an Audi and they don't make a set for it. Worth the time though and a few more hours needed.

Bought it through Jonathan.
The new garage is nice as you would expect, but it's no bigger than the old one!
My car was sitting inside, which surprised me for a car dealer on Ballymena! We aren't ones for all that carry on

The ones you have at the rear are definitely the ones specific to the GTI, as they fit perfectly round the larger diffuser that the GTI has. Pretty certain you need 'normal' ones for the rear of your GTD.
