Title: BW16 Club
Post by: karlak on 21 March 2014, 09:09
Just had a text and email update.

Your order has been confirmed for production week commencing 13/04/2014

Moving along now :)  Only slipped two weeks from the estimated BW14, that the dealer suggested.

They did seem keen for to me to sign by the 6th Jan to get the car.  I had had been thinking about it for a while and trying to beat them up on the price somewhat.

I think I have got one of their "allocated" slots which was for this build date.  Who knows, dealers seem to make it up as they go along I reckon.

Pretty sure we wont here anything until Friday.  Seems that the tracker misses the build process and jumps straight to "in  transit".

Post by: p9ul on 15 April 2014, 21:52
Just so you guys know - I think the tracker only updates at around 8,45 am - it's not very "live". I think some BW15 guys got their first update on the Wednesday so you may hear something tomorrow, although I didn't hear anything until Friday morning - and yes, it just went straight to "in transit"

My BW15 GTD is still in transit supposedly although hoping it;s been delivered to Port of Tyne this afternoon - just had a lokk at google earth and I don't think I've seen such an expanse of parking - absolutely huge - can't quite make out the car models all li ned up but I'm guessing there's a lot of Nissan's waiting to be shipped out...

Whoop , Whoop , we have movement :)

Step 5 of 7: Your car has been built and has now left the factory. On average it takes 4 weeks from build for this model to reach your local Volkswagen Retailer.

I wonder if GTDs and GTIs move at different times...? I've ordered a GTI PP...

Whoop Whoop again :)

Just got my 5b message "in transit : shipping"

Step 5 of 7: Your car is on the next stage of its journey to the UK. On average it takes 3 weeks for this model to reach your local Volkswagen Retailer.

Anyone else heard anything ?

I checked out some earlier posts about which boats are used and I noticed that cars going south use Sheerness (SNS) port. The cars generally come from Emden in Germany.

Being sad, I checked Marinetraffic and 'African Highway' left Emden for Sheerness this afternoon. Assume I'm going to receive my 5b text (and probably 5c) by tomorrow morning!!

I'll let you know in the morning...
Title: Re: BW16 Club
Post by: Wil on 21 April 2014, 16:24
I should also mention that although my information says 'Aberdeen', I'm actually collecting my car from Gillingham hence why I'm looking for ships going south!!

Just got the "5C" message.

Step 5 of 7: Your car is in the final stage of its journey to the UK. On average it takes 10 days from build for this model to reach your local Volkswagen Retailer.

So the car is in the UK :)

Post by: Jimmy Filth on 22 April 2014, 11:37
You're right that all cars going south come from Emden to Sheerness, but Sheerness is a tiny port.  My car was at Emden for a week after receiving the 5b.  It then took another week to get to the dealers.

Generally you'll get the 5b text exactly 48 hours after receiving the 5a

Just received this for the second time...

I think this is quite common with the VW tracking system.

Step 6 of 7: Your car has now arrived in the UK and will be delivered to your local Volkswagen Retailer shortly. This normally takes 7 days.

I checked the online tracker yesterday and although I'd received a second 5a text yesterday it had moved to a 5b status (3 weeks to delivery). I assume this mens that I'm actually at status 5b. I also noticed that the 'Elbe Highway' (a car transporter) was in Sheerness yesterday afternoon after arriving from Emden.

Fingers crossed that's it in the UK but I won't hold my breath!!

I found when us 12ers were going through the process that a car made at the beginning of the week could be waiting for a boat by the time a late week car was starting the production process, then it is down to luck of the dramas waiting for a boat. For instance, my car had to wait a week for a boat.

Just got back from sorting my finance out - Am picking it up next Thursday Morning :)

Wasn't so impressed at the increase in interest rate from when I put the order in though, also the £199 3xservice deal is now 24x £15.99 - :(

Hi karlak, has you car arrived at the dealer yet? Mine is still waiting to get on a truck, so I think you will be beating me to it.  Hopefully I'll get it the weekend after.

I'm a bit surprised you've been hit with an increase in servicing costs - or did you not add this at the time of your order? Also higher interest, what rate where you quoted and what rate did you end up with?

Hi,

Car is at the dealer - well their compound :)

The servicing deal of £199 was replaced in April with a £15.99 x 24 offer. (30k miles/ 3 years)

The interest rate increased by around 0.7%, again this changed in April as part of the latest campaign.  All previous quotes are only valid (apparently) for 30 days, quite amusing as no-one can receive a Factory built Golf in that time.  I get the impression this is the first time that deals/offers have been worse than the previous campaign for the Golf 7.

I don't see how they can charge you the new servicing price if you 'purchased' the £199 deal?

The interest is showing as 6.2% on the website still, my dealer hasn't mentioned an increase to me so will see what happens next week.

I hadn't purchased the service deal as I had not got the car.  As far as I am aware you cant purchase it without having the car or could it have been added like any other "option" when ordering ?

Oh well, I will see what VW customer services say.  Not going to let it sour the experience of picking up next week :)

Title: Re: BW16 Club
Post by: ffrank on 01 May 2014, 19:16
No of course, don't let it sour - but my service plan was added like any other option by the dealer and is included in my OTR price. Whether they tell me the price has changed remains to be seen, but they didn't so far!

Re the servicing, dealer my rang me to say the £199 deal was ending and if I wanted it it would get added to my order (which I did)

Karlak - you said you just sorted your finance out so you order the car with no deposit? I paid £1000 up front so surely money changing hands locks in the price (including the finance interest rate)

It wasn't offered to have it added as an "option". Interesting, thanks for letting me know.

Finance was sorted today, but I had left a £500 deposit when the car was ordered in January.  I went through all this with them today, but they insist it does "lock" anything in from a finance/promotion offer.  This would also be backed up by the finance quote I got in January, which clearly states that the offer is for 30 days only.
Title: Re: BW16 Club
Post by: silver38 on 01 May 2014, 23:35
I was asked to leave 10% deposit(£31770) but I gave them £2,000 when I ordered, I'm giving them money when I collect the car.
Title: Re: BW16 Club
Post by: p9ul on 02 May 2014, 08:31
Yeah I went armed with £3k when I ordered but only had to hand over £1k.

The servicing was listed as an optional extra on the car configurator (still at 299), the dealer asked if we wanted it at an offer of 199, we said yes but preferred to pay for it outright, we only wanted to order things that would change the order going to the factory if you know what I mean - a servicing agreement wasn't going to change what the factory was going to build. Our dealer then rang us later to say the option had changed to the monthly payments, and if we still wanted it at 199 he'd add it onto the order

Been to see our dealer as we collect the car on friday - asked again about the servicing @ £199 and he couldn't find it on the computer system.

However, he went looking through his paperwork file and he had a printoff screen dump of the offer with my name against it so he said he would be able to put it through - although he did mention about the 30 days cut off thing - which is why he'd rang us while we were waiting for the car.

I'm guessing that you or the dealer don't have anything written down with your choice of the "pay up front" servicing then you may have a hard time getting it now.

To be fair to the dealer, I spoke to them on Friday and they have somehow knocked some money off the current Service Deal, which means I can actually have it for less than the £199 :)

Bit of extra info for folk on the recent Finance/Servicing change.

I will be picking my car up next week and told the dealer I would like to increase my deposit from what I discussed previously and also change the estimated mileage. They told me that if I did this it would have to go through again and this would incur the new higher interest rate and the new Service scheme pricing.

So I've not been able to increase my deposit/change the miles, without wiping out any monthly gains with the higher interest/servicing.

I'm happy I get to stay on the previously agreed deal at least! This is my first time buying a new car, and I guess this is one of the lessons learnt.

Not a problem (unless you want to reduce your monthly payments) - phone up VW finance in a few weeks and 'overpay' the loan

^^^ This...

Their normally isn't any charge for overpaying on a finance agreement

Post by: ffrank on 06 May 2014, 20:50
Thanks guys, that's a very good point - I could make an overpayment, didn't think of that. I was going to reduce the mileage also, but not a biggy - I will I'll just have more equity in the car over time.

Edit - Just double checked on the VW finance site, and if you make over payments you can reduce the loan length or the monthly payment amount. The former would work out slighter better over the loan period, but quite nice to have the ability to reduce monthly payments if making over payments.

Mine too.

Had a couple of short runs. Car seems to drive well enough. Trying to get me head round all the different buttons/functions. It's got a hll of a lot for a base spec car!

Cheers :)

Just done around 85 miles in it for work today, down the M1 into Watford, then across Watford town centre to another address, finishing with a stop/start journey back through Watford to the M1 and heavy traffic drive home.  Computer showing 45mpg.  Happy with that, especially as it was doing a large regen of the DPF while stuck in Watford.

Was to collect my GTD today but had an email from the dealers yesterday afternoon to give them a call. Rang the salesman who said there is a problem with your car, when they checked the invoices they didn't match and discovered the car had the Discover Navigation and not the Discover Navigation Pro i had paid for.
Two options take the car as is or order again, i went for the order again. I have already sold my current car and it is going to it's new owner tomorrow, the dealer have said they will loan me a car until the replacement is delivered.

That's no luck at all mate.
I don't blame you for reordering again. Although perfect scenario is they would give you the car to run about in until the new one arrives.

Could they not order the Nav Pro and fit at the dealers?

No the Pro Nav can only be fitted at build, they had already checked this with VW.

What a nightmare Silver38. That's not great. At least you get a car from them for the time being. Have they indicated how long the wait will be for a new one?

I picked my GTI up yesterday... I'm still doing the long journey from Gillingham to Aberdeen! I'll post some pictures when I'm back home. I can only say that it's definitely worth the wait!!!

Wil are you using the motorway or are you doing the A roads for the journey?
Just interested as I'm getting mine from Gillingham and going back to Glasgow. I've read a few articles saying the motorway is a poor way to run it in.

I took the A1. I varied the revs as much as possible, didn't blitz it and just took care really!

It's not ideal but I wasn't going to take a million detours to get home!!

Car looks great, my pure white 5 door is almost here!

I see the GTi badges are now in red, was that an option or is it standard now?
