Title: BW15 Club
Post by: ffrank on 16 March 2014, 12:18
Hey everyone, I received a text and email from the Tracker yesterday at 8.45am showing I had advanced to confirmed BW for my GTD.

Although the alerts worked well, they don't actually give you a date - so I still had to go to the online tracker to see the date!

Date was 06/04/2014, so BW15 which was also my estimated week.

Anyone else?

Hi ffrank,

Im also BW15. I ordered my carbon grey GTI on 16th Feb, initially I was told 17 weeks so its looking at arriving a fair bit sooner. Cant wait!!

I ve been lurking a while and don t really do forums, but Id just like to say thanks to the numerous knowledgeable posters on here for some of the info I have seen.

Also the photos of the cars which have kept me going.

Cheers

Hi Ffrank,

When did you order your GTD please ?

Mine is meant to be BW14, but no movement on the tracker yet.  I ordered first week of January.

Hi dBrian, you are benefiting from the recent speedy GTI lead times there, nice! Agreed regarding this forum - it's excellent and has been very helpful. Although it has been "responsible" for me adding a few extra options since ordering - thanks to some of the glowing reviews of various options :)

Hi Karlak, I ordered the last week of Jan so does seem you should have had an update by now - have you checked with your dealer if it's updated for them? Perhaps your tracker just hasn't updated, it does seem to behave a bit differently for folk!

Hi I'm a wk 15 build too! I ordered on 6 Jan via DTD and was advised it would be 20 to 22 week wait. Later,  the dealer (JCB) said it would be wk 14 build, so have lost a week some where :undecided:

I'm moving from a Mk4 Gti T I've had for 15 yrs, so the extra week will come in handy to gen up on how to drive a 21st century car

What's the best guess on delivery dates - mid May?

Do you know how to sign up for text/e mail alerts?

GTD, Tornado red, panoramic, advanced phone, climate screen, rear camera, cheaper sat nav, keyless, park assist, winter pack, high beam assist, 5 yr warranty, 3 yr service

Hi kC99, that will be a nice replacement in the VW family for you! Although this is my first VW I have a feeling it won't be my last.

My spec is quite similar to yours:

GTD, Night Blue, panoramic, rear camera, cheaper sat nav, keyless, winter pack,  3 yr service but with 4yr Warranty, dynaudio and DCC instead of some of the options you have.

Dealer has told me early May, going by some of the times on here it could be first week of May, I'm expecting second week worst case!?

To get alerts you have to register an account with My VW and you can then add your car to your account and set the alerts.

Thanks ffrank - just registered to get alerts. It was interesting to read one of the frequently asked questions, which states the car is being built in Slovak republic, Bratislava, Mexico and Germany - hope all the bits fit together properly

Out of interest, when did you order your car?
Title: Re: BW15 Club
Post by: ffrank on 18 March 2014, 20:52
Lol, that would explain the wait then :)

I ordered last week of Jan, but not through a broker - which can add a few weeks if the supplying dealer have used all their build slots. So that might explain me catching up by a few weeks!

I'm build week 15 as well  Got confirmation on the tracker about a week ago (admittedly I hadn't looked for a while!)

I'm going for a 3 door GTD in Tornado Red, with keyless, discovery Sat Nav (the basic one) and reversing camera. Ordered it at the beginning of February. Really looking forward to getting it, as I've heard that red cars go faster

It was sad to see karlak's date slip to BW16 - I ordered on the same day (6 Jan) and had to quickly check the tracker - luckily I'm still BW w/c 6 Apl

Good to see johnboylds has joined us to keep up the numbers!?!

Does anyone know if VW have introduced any new options since we ordered? I'm planning to keep my GTD for some years and in 5 years time, don't want to look back and wished I'd got something, that  every Dacia is getting as standard

If you have a confirmed build week which you will have if its in April, then unfortunately you won't be able to add any more extras.
you'll just have to look on at the Dacia's with envy

I believe it only takes a couple of days from car build starting to rolling out of the factory. Saying that, my dealer told me on the Wednesday that my car was being built, I got the 5a text on the Thursday and the 5b text on the Saturday.  BW just means your car will be built at some point this week , not necassary ly that is starts first thing Monday :)

Do you mean built on Wednesday and in transit by Saturday?

Think I read somewhere in the FAQ that it take around 30hours to put the cars together - just wondering how much of that is automated with the factory running 24/7...
Title: Re: BW15 Club
Post by: Jimmy Filth on 07 April 2014, 20:40
Nah, I spoke to VW on the Wednesday (19th March) and they said my car was showing that the build hadn't started.  On the Thursday (20th March) at 0844hrs I got a text saying it was in transit: left the factory, then on Saturday (22nd March) at 0844hts I got the 5b text saying in transit: shipping.  I then didn't get the 5c text, but that Friday (28th March) I got a text saying it hand arrived in the UK. On checking my car actually arrived in the UK on the Thursday morning, then got to the dealers on Friday 4th. The tracker skipped stage 4 altogether.
Title: Re: BW15 Club
Post by: kC99 on 07 April 2014, 21:09
Hi, I guess we can all help each other by sharing any tracker/text/dealer updates we get? My dealer e mailed me on 27 March to say:

Your Golf could be built at any stage during the week, once it has been built it is then transported to Emden docks in Germany, once it arrives it could be there for a few days, it could be a few weeks before being been put onto a boat for the UK.

So you are likely to receive your Golf earlier in May,

I've had no info from my dealer so far - everything I've found out is by checking the tracker on VW's website. I've now signed up for text alerts so will see what happens.

I imagine at 0844 on Thursday you'll get your 5b text. I'll keep my fingers crossed yours is on a boat by the end of the weekend
Title: Re: BW15 Club
Post by: ffrank on 08 April 2014, 12:17
That would be great :) Strangely the text I had this morning was another Stage 3 text, which made me think my build week had been changed! But on logging in all was well :)

A few gremlins in this system, hopefully it's developed by a different company to the software in the factory telling them which parts to fit where...

Just wondering if VW make all the 3drs for that week then do all the 5drs or something like that.

Post by: kC99 on 08 April 2014, 16:57
Well done ffrank and congrats on being the first one to escape the factory (even though I ordered before you I'm not jealous at all ).

Did your tracker skip the 'Build in progress' stage?

I guess yours is a Sunday/Monday car (?) - I hope mine isn't a-  'let's get everything out of the way for the weekend' Friday car!
Title: Re: BW15 Club
Post by: ffrank on 08 April 2014, 17:30
Thanks, hope you join me soon - or catch up at the ship lottery stage :) It did actually skip the Build in Progress stage entirely - which doesn't seem uncommon.

p9ul - I'm a manual 5dr sorry, and certainly lots of options. Working in IT I would be really interested to see how the heck they do determine the order of these things happening. From experience there is probably a lady or chap sat in an office approving car data for build and depending on how many sugars he had in his coffee he sometimes works from the bottom of the page up, and sometimes from the top down   :nerd:

Although, I'm sure it's all automated...

Good luck with prompt stages all!

I received the follwing e mail at 9.05 this morning:

Step 5 of 7: Your car has been built and has now left the factory. On average it takes 4 weeks from build for this model to reach your local Volkswagen Retailer

The tracker missed out the Build in progress stage and although I signed up for it, no text received - but hey, just a month now before I can get behing the wheel!

Anyone other than ffrank received an update?

Great news kc99 :D Yeah, well as they sent me the wrong text and email anyway...

Just received the message below:

Step 5 of 7: Your car is in the final stage of its journey to the UK. On average it takes 10 days from build for this model to reach your local Volkswagen Retailer.

Has anyone else received this, or other updates from your dealer?

Does this seem unusually quick - I was expecting it to arrive early May

No texts or emails here - your train driver must have had his weetabix

If it is at your dealers in 10 days, you would likely have an April pickup? Blimey. I best get stuff sorted with my current car in case that's me too.

Looking forward to seeing a black R with those rear clusters so I know what they'll look like on mine if I decide to upgrade!

I had similar email this morning as well, probably on  same ship. Cars are normally shipped from Emden, http://www.marinetraffic.com/ website is the one to watch, I had a look yesterday, but could not see anything that appeared to be likely.

Hi, just received another e mail update:

Step 6 of 7: Your car has now arrived in the UK and will be delivered to your local Volkswagen Retailer shortly. This normally takes 7 days.

I hope it didn't catch this morning's frost

Sorry ffrank for overtaking you - didn't you notice when I indicated? I'll get the dealer to look at this under warranty

Anyone else had an update or new message from thier dealer?

One of the problems getting the car earlier than expected is paying for it! Does anyone know if dealers talke credit cards and if so, what percetage of the total they let you pay by card?
Title: Re: BW15 Club
Post by: p9ul on 15 April 2014, 11:30
No more word since Friday for me.

I tried doing a bit if research into the ship movements over the weekend, seems the car transporters arrive - unload - depart in around a 10 hr timeframe, they're on the go 24/7 and it's approx 24 hours between Grimsby and Emdem, and I think from the BW12 thread there's 2 ships doing that route, so there should be boat load of cars arriving in Grimsby on a daily basis...

Either my train broke down or the tracker is having a complete wobbly for me! Was strange how I got another Stage 3 text instead of a stage 5 text (when the tracker changed to stage 5), so it's possible it is indeed in a non-recoverable state for me! We'll see :)

Really starting to look forward to having the car now, everytime I'm driving I'm thinking of being in my VW

Not sure about credit cards - if I can use one I will to get some airmiles. I don't think my car will be ready before April pay day, so can keep to my planned deposit!

Edit - meant to say, great news you got the arrived in UK text

5b means it's at Emden waiting for a boat - 5c is on a boat. Bear in mind it only updates once every 24 hours so typically by the time you get a 5c notification the boat may almost be docking in the UK.

Nothing for me :o(

Wonder if having a winge to VW will get me any freebies, it's been a week since I got 5b which says 3 weeks to the dealer, so a fortnight left but my dealer says the delivery from the port to them can take up to 10 days and then they want 5 after that to prep the car....

We were originally told early June for delivery but seeing as the car was built 2 weeks ago I thought they'd get a shift on so they could start getting some money back off it.

Hope so, but that probably means my cars been unloaded at Grimsby!

As far as I can tell the shops take around 24 hrs to get from emden to Grimsby and then take about 10 hrs before they're on their way again.

Either way, it's getting closer!

Hi, sorry for not updaing you on progress of my car. I got the message last Friday from VW to say car was at the dealers (JCB Gillingham) ready for collection - so I thought I was ahad of everyone , but the actual dealer can't let me collect it until Tuesday.

I'm away next week and have arranged to pick it up on 12 May - so I'll now probably be the last

They'll only let me pay £1k by credit card.

I've arranged VW's free 7 day insurance which was easy to do - here's the details for this in case anyone is intersted:

Volkswagen offer seven day complimentary insurance the phone number 0800 3167892, they are open on a week day 8am to 9pm, Saturday 8am to 5pm, it is about a ten minute phone call and will ask details for yourself, the car, start date and Volkswagen retailer number.

I hope you all enjoy your new cars!

Post by: ffrank on 25 April 2014, 17:48
kC99, I take no pleasure in over taking you again!!

My car is arriving at the dealers first half of next week (although I won't count my chickens until they've been unloaded from the transport), so expecting to pick it up towards the end of the week or bank holiday weekend perhaps.

Thanks for the insurance details, will be doing that for sure.

Just got to sort selling my car too, will probably just use webuyanycar.com as it's not worth a lot, and there's one close to the dealer so I can do it all in one trip.

ffrank, my dealer offered me £150 more than webuyanycar, plus they've actually had a look at it (although they were £200 lower than what we were offered by a mini dealer). Ford C-max, and a complete shed which I can't wait to be rid of!!

Thanks for the heads up - I gave it a go, but it wasn't a good offer. I think you did well, I've had pretty poor offers from several dealers (including the previous ones I bartered for a GTD with.) I think I am going to sell it privately, and if it doesn't sell in a month or so hand it back to the finance company - which works out a bit better than WBAC.com.

Any news on your car? Mine is waiting a truck still, hopefully will get it next weekend. So many lotteries taking place on the delivery time between the factory and us!

(JCB Gillingham)

They'll only let me pay £1k by credit card.

They probably realised how much it cost them when I paid for my GTD in full last year using a cashback credit card lol whoops

Got by stage 6 text a few days ago so hopefully not long now. Every day between 09.00 & 9.10 the last few weeks I've just been staring at my phone...

Love that colour ffrank - would probably have gone for that myself if my last 2 cars hadn't been that colour already!

Picked mine up this afternoon - really impressed so far - not had chance to have a good fiddle with all the settings yet but I will.

One pleasant surprise is that I don't think I'm gonna have to tinker with the artwork resolution to get that displaying on the screen - I read elsewhere that it only accepts 400x400 resolution but all my artwork in my mp3's is at 600x600 and it's downscaling everything thing - although all the images tend to have a white line around then, whether this is a normal thing or down to downscaling I don't know though. I got a 64gb SD from Amazon for £20 it's going to save a lot of effort when I start dumping music onto the card.

We're expecting crappy weather all weekend so no waxing for me probably - might squeeze a few photo's in with a rainy lake district backdrop though!

Fairly impressed by the standard sound system too, was tempted by the dynaudio but I think I saved myself £500 there

Deep Black Pearl.

Did a bit of tinkering adding the station logo's last night - wouldn't say I'm happy with those supplied by VW as they look a bit too blocky (the curse of Apple retina screens I suppose) and I know there's some higher res ones in the maintence section so will give those a go later...

Very nice, the GTD/GTI looks very mean in black. We have swapped colours, as my car before the current was black :)

Let me know how you get on with the radio logo's, will be doing that myself shortly!

3 more sleeps for me...

Decided I'm definitely going to swap out the orange bulbs, they stick out like a sore thumb. The turning lights aren't half bright and because they always semm to be on when on my twisty housing estate I'll have burned these standard bulbs out in no time!

Not had time for a good waxing yet, but the alloys have had 2 coats of poorboys wheel sealant...

Picked up this morning, the car is amazing, absolutely love it and the wait was well worth it. Will hopefully give it a detail tomorrow and post some pics, but even without a wash it looks incredible in the sun, so much gold flake

Edit, a pic (it hasn't been washed yet at my request, so quite dirty).

Lovely

Did you go for the advanced phone kit? Just wondering how it differs from the standard...

Thanks p9ul, I didn't get advanced phone prep sorry. I have a standard mdi port and blue and green collar iphone cables included.

Took her out for a lunchtime spin and she's certainly getting some looks - and some compliments from colleagues.

Looking forward to my drive home now :)

Ahh, OK - I thought you only got the aerial with the advanced phone kit. The standard does me just fine anyway - connects via bluetooth and you can assign 4 favourite numbers to the touchscreen - which also gives a readout of the battery and signal strength of the phone.

One other little touch I've noticed is the wheel centre caps have a carbon effect behind the VW logo

Ah I see, I think the 'shark tooth' is with the Sat Nav - if you don't have that? I've got the standard Nav.

Phone system sounds good, will set that up later. As for little touches, finding plenty of those already too!
