Hello!
My Mk3 16v has been standing for about 5 months. Today I hooked the battery back up and tried to start it. When I turn the key to turn on the power there is a loud buzzing sound from somewhere around the exhaust manifold in the engine bay. When I turn the key further to start the car...nothing happens. Any ideas??
-
I think the problems are possibly unrelated.
My immobiliser light will not stop flashing when I plug the three pin fob in...it's a conlog immobiliser, any idea how to reset?
The buzzing is coming from some valve leading off a pipe from the airbox, the valve is under the plastic manifold cover.
-
You sure the battery has enough charge?
-
I think so, I tried with jump leads attached to another car and no difference. The light on my immobiliser socket flashes all the time and I'm pretty sure it didn't before. Any idea if, when the immobiliser is active, you try and start should it turn over and just not start or not turn over at all.
-
The buzzing is the idle stabilisation valve, or ISV for short. Sounds like your immobiliser is stopping the car from turning over.
-
Ok so can I clean the valve or has it had it?
The immobiliser is a three pin key you push into a slot on the dash. I assume is is not as easy as bridging the wires that lead to the three pins to bypass??
-
Im sure my isv used to buzz ,think that's normal, have you got a spare push key to try?
-
Unfortunately I only have the one push key. I read online that some immobilisers drop the key code after being without the battery for a few days and that hooking the power back up then leaving the ignition on for 15 mins can sort it. Others say to remove the battery then touch the positive and negative leads together.... Anyone know if either of these methods can reset a Conlog immo?

Just a quick update...I found the brain of the immobiliser hidden away behind the dash, unplugged it and the car started! The idle valve has stopped making noise now I got the car started too. There is however another problem, it won't idle at all even when warmed up. You can start it then keep it running with a bit of gas but as soon as you release the accelerator pedal it immediately dies. Could this be some sort of added security kicking in as the immo knows it has been disconnected or would it be unrelated?

Might be the idle valve not opening. Try taking it off (you need a 5mm allen key, undo the three bolts holding the plastic mani cover, then unplug the ISV and remove the retaining bolt) and giving it a good clean.

All sorted thank you gentlemen...It was the ISV, took it out, gave it a clean, put it back, took it out again, gave it another clean, put it back, hit it with a hammer...then it worked!
