Title: Starting motor problem. I think...

Lately when i start up the engine on my GTI there is a loud'ish whizzing/whirring noise which lasts for about 2 seconds. It doesn't seem to be affecting the car in any way at all. but i want to get it sorted. My dad seems to think it may be something to do with the starting motor. Anyone know anything about this please?
