Title: help for new guy with a connection problem.
Post by: blue_concept on 31 August 2005, 13:43
the other day i brough an vag com cable for my mk3 gti so i can sort the rear abs sensor out. i inserted it into the right connection and it didn't work. after hours and hours of fiddling with the cable and laptop. i open the dash up.

when i opened the dash up i found that the cable was not plugged in anywhere and there was no blatant place to plug the cable in

being a newbie to golfs i didn't wanna start messing about with the wiring, anyone know where the cable is supposed to be plugged in? thanks

In the scuttle pannel. The bit where the window wiper motor is. Above the engine under a plastic cover.

The connections for the diagnostic socket loom would most likely be under the dash behind or above the relay plate/fuse box , I'll have a look in the wiring diagram to find its location
(All you will find in the plenum chamber/scuttle panel is a large multiplug that goes straight into the ECU)

In that case it'll probably be either an AGG or ADY engine code ( If it's an 8V )

I've just checked the wiring diagram . The wiring for the diagnostics plug have a connection on an ' adapter plate ' which is located on a bracket above the relay plate/fuse box .
This is where you should find the two wires that go to the ECU , one is Yellow ( 0.5 wire size )  the other is Grey with a white tracer ( also 0.5 wire size ) .
The positive feed comes from fuse 21 ( 15 Amp ) then the Q/5 connection on the back of the relay plate via ( dash panel wiring loom)  Red with a white tracer ( 1.5 wire size )
The earth  wire is Brown ( 0.5 wire size ) and is connected into the wiring loom for the instruments .

Hope this helps,
                      Oli   :smiley:ÂÂÂ
