Yeah I did want to go jap, had a look at scoobys but I can't get insurance for another 2 years on them! So I'll save jap for another couple of years.

I stuck with VW because it's what I know, and I wanted another MK3 as I know the car pretty well and have spares at home from the 16v. I've had 8v, 16v and now wanted to try VR6, more so for the noise more than anything. I'm sure it'll be love at first sight no doubt. I went for a highline as I wanted heated leather and black trim.

I've just put a deposit down on a 1997 R reg highline. 126k miles with FSH and 3 owners. Seller is a dub enthusiast and needs to fund his MK1 project hence the sale. He said in his ownership he's treated every single bit of rust on the car and resprayed a few panels and bumper. The car is 100% standard, which is a bonus! Even has a cassette player!

Picking it up on Sunday so will let you guys know over the week how it goes!

List of mods to do (hopefully while loan is being paid off):

BMC CDA
Full exhaust system, including manifold
Repair my Team Dynamics pro race 1.2 wheels, source one more and then put them on the car
Decent coilovers
ECU chip
Polybush front and rear (removed the polybushes from the 16v, they looked new, so will reuse them!)

Hopefully all in the next year!!!

Looks good khare bud. Wouldav been better 3 dr but still looks good. Have the chains been done on it? As they start to rattle around this mileage. I want a vr but iv got a mk4 1.8t and for some reason i cant let go of my mk3 anni

I wanted a 5 door for a change mate, never had one! Also helps passengers get in and out of the back with my harness on much easier, as they won't have to climb over or duck under it! Chains have not been done but tbh they're not something that worry me too much. Yeah ok they will need doing at some point, but I have a feeling the VR6 will stay with me for a long time, so an engine strip will be scheduled in at some point!

Yeah only thing is the 5 door thing but it looks tidy enough. Plus 3 door would have cost more as more sort after

I was very lucky to get mine as a 5dr as now i have 2 kids and when this was in the garage i had to use my sisters punto. Wow it was realy hard to get my new born boy in. With the 5dr its SOOO easy so i know what you mean by easy for others to get in. Even my mk4 is a 5dr lol

5 door is perfect if you have kids etc but not otherwise.  3 door just looks more sportier etc. However a good condition 3 door highline would be pricey

Post by: Foreveryoungaus16v on 06 March 2014, 19:32
Thing I like about the highline is that it does not have any sh!tty plastic trim. Since I removed all mine looks miles better
Title: Re: Is Golf VR6 ECU Chip soldered in or is it push fit?
Post by: Khare on 06 March 2014, 19:46
Yeah that's something I'm looking forward to, no trim!

TBH not seen many 3d highlines about, but as said, I wanted 5d for a change!

What are these like to get to 200hp? I presume it's achievable with engine map, induction sorted, throttle body porting and exhaust?

You going to get a hotgolf lightened flywheel? Will look nice with the team dynamics.  I saw a single one on ebay a while back

Fit a VSR  This will drastically increase low end torque but not bhp. I imagine with cams remap/chip etc you will see the magic 200

Flywheel will be done if and when the clutch needs doing, although hopefully not for a long time

What's VSR?

Source yourself a corrado intake manifold and throttle unless you fancy shelling out for a shrick

Oh the shrick one, yeah they're over £1k hahaha, no way! Corrado intake and TB compatible with OBD2 engine?

I was under the impression they're all OBD2 regardless of age. Manifold will fit, Lower parts are just the same IIRC, Can't remember about the TB though

yeah thought as much. Saw a thread that a reputable guy on cgti started and his vr6 pulled off 194 with only a few tweaks. So 200hp doesn't seem impossible.
