Title: bixenon headlamps - help
Post by: candywhite12 on 03 March 2014, 13:08
hi all

i was in an accident some months ago and they had to replace the entire right-hand side xenon headlight unit.  The result is when i look at it now, the new projector lens for the xenon bulb is all shiny and clean while the older projector lens looks very 'foggy'.  When i look at the two at the same time, there's a clear difference as to the clarity of the light they emit.

Now i've tried to take the thing out and clean but couldn't do it.  Has anyone done this / knows whether it's even possible to remove, clean and put back?

thanks

ps if my description is not clear, i'm talking about the far left bulb that can be seen in this picture (scroll down a bit to see it) - not my car btw

That's not the bulb. it's the projector lens which is part of the headlamp.

It is possible to take it out, but it means taking the bumper off to remove the headlight, then dismantling the guts of the headlight. Even if you do succeed in getting it out, I'm not sure what you can do to clean it.

mate that's the shell of the entire unit you are talking about.  I refer specifically to the lens that is inside that shell.  Did find this http://www.golfmkv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=158207 but that's for an MKV, dunno if this is the same as an MKVI unit
