Title: Cylinder head cleaning
Post by: Sgt_Lemon on 27 February 2014, 17:12
Anyone got any tips or know ways to do it. I have heard to I use dishwashers or cheap coke and leave it to soak. Have stripped the head completely including valve guides but want to give it a proper clean before I port it.

Was in asda earlier so got 6 bottles of 17p Rola cola. If that doesn't work then the over cleaner is coming out for a sparkly new engine. Pretty sure I would be kicked out if the head made its way into the dishwasher though

I don't like cola sometimes if you don't get it all out it gets sticky big time!

Brick acid and strong picking acid worked well on mine but the pickle is very dangerous so take care.

Anyone with a aqua blaster near you? Parts come out brand new.

One use and straight to the tip.

Or just leave it in the back garden for further cleaning, especially at that price!

When we moved house there was actually an old dishwasher left in the garage just not plumbed in. Will see if that works.

Great idea. Feed it with thinners and would be an awesome parts washer

Just wait til the other half is out.

My dishwasher has had 4 alloys, 2 rocker covers and a sump in it so far!

To be honest that makes it quite a lucky thing in your house.  Your toaster, other halve's onesie, various walls and your chest of draws have lucked right out in comparison....

They are all upstairs, dishwasher is out of the 'danger/splash zone', safely located downstairs
