Title: Pre march 1st delivery.
Post by: Climb_Ne on 27 February 2014, 06:28
I thought I would see who else is expecting delivery in the next 2 days and therefore the torture of looking at their car until Saturday.  My PW GTD is due at some point today.

Oh well I suppose it gives me time to read the manual and set up an sd card with music.

Read the manual? I take it you're not a typical Yorkie eating man!

Are they no longer stand alone units then (not seen one for a few years I admit)?

I'm waiting an extra day in an attempt to ensure it gets that little bit extra attention. Sunday 1st thing, will also give me a good few hours of quiet roads to raid down on my way home :)

Mine was delivered yesterday at about 10.30. I now think I've exhausted the list of things I can do before actually driving it.

Obviously you're not meant to drive it before the 1st but what would happen if caught? Would the garage be responsible?
Just curious.

No I don't think they would once they have handed it over and its been accepted by the owner - the owner has already been registered with DVLA as the Keeper of the vehicle and would be the responsible party if he chose to drive the car without valid plates.

And they've tried to deliver the car to work. I'm at home.

Brilliant

Lex did that with me 3 years ago (except I was at work and they tried to deliver it at home)! Idiots .......

mine has 4 miles on it...and a cable hanging out of the A pillar which has now been fixed. Excuse the rubbish photo

Looks lovely.
What do you think has caused the gouge on the paint?

They should be able to sort that out without any bother - are you all set to drive it at 12.01 tonight?

:-)

It's going to be almost impossible to get any sleep tonight buzzing with excitement, but Here is a question to all new gti, & gtd owners, how many miles are you going to do  until you give it the full beans, because I'm thinking of raging of the forecourt, what harm could it do.

Post by: Jthgti on 28 February 2014, 22:32
The manual states to run in over the first 1000 miles (limit revs, don't keep at constant revs for any period of time). That's what I do with new cars anyway.

Whatever you think of that with regards to the engine, remember you are also running in the tyres, brakes etc. for the first few hundred miles....
Title: Re: Pre march 1st delivery.
Post by: gazmondo35 on 28 February 2014, 23:01
I'll probably do the full 1000 miles run in, but because this is a second car it might take 2months before I can't probably drive it, maybe I'll do lands end & back for the hell of it.
Title: Re: Pre march 1st delivery.
Post by: Jthgti on 28 February 2014, 23:03
Opinions differ about the 1000 miles - I've often wondered if there is any point after 300 miles or so but completed the run in just in case...

Anyway, enjoy the new cars tomorrow everyone!

Are you sure it's 1000 miles and not 1000 kms ;)
Just take it easy, like mentioned it's not just the engine that needs bedding in ;)
Enjoy your cars folks :D

Yes, sent them a photo. They copied me into a "how the hell did this go out" email and then called to say they would book it into the bodyshop. God I hope they match the paint properly.

I'll also be asking for an equivalent model loan car which I doubt I'll get but I think it's the least they can do

Unfortunately this is a classic example of why I am not picking mine up near plate change day.
Arse & elbow come to mind with the attention to detail or lack of it your car gets from flustered dealers.
I really feel p****d off for you and hope you get it fixed to your satisfaction

This would be my worst nightmare having to travel over 400 miles to pick the car up.
One of the dangers of buying through a broker I guess.
