Hello
Driving home last night and a large warning message appeared on my dash it came up in red with two lanes and a arrow on it did not have a clue what this was but it disappeared after about 30 seconds looked it up in the handbook and it was the warning symbol for the Brake assist looks like another gremlin in the system.

Maybe we should have a separate thread for these intermittent problems as there are several scattered through the posts - can the Mods consider this as it would help if these issues were all in the same place for people to add to or review

I have never had one of these come up when there's not been a car within distance to consider over-sensitivity.

Just tonight I drove in the left lane of a 2 lane road, where the right lane was static to turn right onto a main road. I was just engine braking in anticipation of a red light quite far in the distance. Not sure whether the static traffic well ahead, or the static traffic on my right triggered the warning light/beep and rumble of the brakes (although i'd bet it was the traffic on the right.

If you've had an alert well away from anything (beyond being in the next lane of traffic or more than 100 yards ahead of you when driving at speed) then you might have a fault.

Something could have blown in front of the sensor whilst you were driving.

I've had the "brake assist" come on 3 times now in 5,500 miles, all times it braked so hard the abs cut in, last time the car behind nearly rear ended me.... In all cases the car in front was to the side of the sensor either turning left or right, I was slowing & covering the brakes. The car (GTD, Sept 13) is booked in at VW for the sensor to be recalibrated.
So is this a safety feature or another piece of electronic crap that will go wrong & cause an accident???
The response from the garage that supplied it was laughable, no one phoned back despite their assurances, it took a call to vw uk to start things moving.

Interesting that, as I've had it twice in 200 miles already. Second was a feint chance of anything, previous instance the car was about 80m ahead just driving along. Maybe a reboot..
