got my Golf booked in for a power run on a rolling road tomorow, purely to see what the old girl is putting out,are there any pitfalls in doing this? ie,will they blow my bloody engine up?!! :undecided:
anyone had any problems after doing a rolling road run?
my engine has high milage but has been well looked after over those miles, had a recent oil change and the water pump etc was changed recently,as have the turbo/coolant hoses to silicone parts (most of em anyway).
cheers

They rag the sh!t out of it. The car can take it but sounds bad.
-
they will red line it and ive it a good going, but if there any good they will have the hardware to measure oil temp and wownt rag it until oil is up to temp etc.
its just as bad for the car as you taking it up to the red line when your driving normal which as stated your car will be able to take... if it goes on the rollers then chances are you only had a few hundred miles left in the engine anyway...
-
Most tuners will stick it under heavy load at low revs (via more resistance on the rollers) to check boost levels, fuelling etc before they take it to the redline so don't panic. JKM refused mine once which is a bit embarrassing but at least it didn't go pop lol
Still makes my arse twitch hearing it hit 7200rpm though

Got mine booked on the 16th at BM autos really not looking forward to hearing it hit the ridiculous 8200rpm hopefully it doesn't start ejecting pistons through the bonnet really can't be dealing with that lol
-
thanks, thats really settled my mind!!

They shouldn't bother taking it up to and beyond 8000rpm on a k03/s frame turbo, on my k03/s framed turbo the power run was only done to 7500 rpm
-
I was going to say, you'll be hard pressed to find a st2 map with a rev limiter higher than 7200rpm anyway, so 8200rpm is highly unlikley, a ko3S wouldn't even get there!
-
I really hope they don't take it there lol I would like to know if anywhere could drop the limiter
-
So.....did it go bang!!??
-
And more importantly what were the numbers lol

I just put my 150PD on the rollers and that's got 205k on it. Original engine, gearbox, turbo. The only bit that's changed was the clutch/DMF which I did about 20k ago.
R-Tech gave it a good look over before hand and everything was fine. Very happy with my new map :D

Depends where you go. Prices vary from £30 upwards depending on how many runs etc etc
