Title: Running issues mk3 gti 8v
Post by: wayedy on 23 February 2014, 20:45
hi, iv a mk3 gti 8v, done around 156k, just bought 4 days ago, it first started  to cut out when i drive it down the road in cold weather just when im dipping the clutch when coming to stop at lights or junction, or even turn into a road, the revs drop and oil light and battery light come on and engine cuts off,
very very slight misfire time to time, sometimes keeping the revs abit high helps, its starting to get annoying,
i know the guy sold it to me knows something but didnt tell, can anyone help me or have i just bought a messed up engine car, plz help im worried.

what's the engine code mate?

on 2E it'd have a look at idle valve (aka cigar) + ignition coil...

on ADY, AGG ignition coil and maybe throttle dirty....

Id also be checking the cable on the crankshaft sensor (it loops round the back of the oil filter and often perishes due to heat)

If it has a crank sender (2E doesn't)

If it's just when dipping the clutch and coming to a stop etc, it will be the throttle body. Clean and realign, should sort it. Crank sensor issues would cause it to cut out out completely at random, not just when dipping the clutch, and would fail to restart immediately
