I've noticed the following trim faults in the tailgate spoiler and door rubber. Would you expect them to be rectified?

Sorry. Yes. The trim on the rear screen is not stuck down right to the bottom and so is lifting on one side and the window rubber on the drivers door does not sit snugly against the gloss black trim on the door frame, where as on the passenger door it does. Thanks.

One of glossy black rear window trims on my Scirocco has been like a wobbly tooth since day 1 but it has never concerned me enough to take it back plus no one would know it was like that as it is positioned ok

The b pillar trim is like that on mine too.

So much for VW's legendary build quality ,the Mk 6 used to do this also the strips on the windows at the bottom would work loose to.

Don't know where this legendary build quality crap came from but it's a load of guff.

It harks back 20-30 years. My Mk2 is still incredibly well screwed together. There's not many Escorts and Astra's in as good a shape these days.

Far more Astras than Escorts of that era still on the road. I think old Astras (and Vauxhalls in general are better made than a lot give credit for) are quite well screwed together. My mam ran an Astra 1.4 auto for 23 years (bought at 3 years old) and it used to sail through every MOT. The worst thing about it was the paintwork – Vauxhall Red doesn’t stay red for long.
So many electronics in new cars now – the Achilles heel, and use of jet washers, allowing water into areas that were water-proof enough for splashing through puddles but not a 120 bar jet of directed water. From a looks point of view, a well looked after VW can still look very tidy at 10 years old (save for stone chips and wheel kerbing).

I just took delivery of my car on Saturday, and the carpet is sticking out of the door sill on the driver side about 1 cm.
Also, the left exhaust is slightly lower than the right one.
All of this will be fixed with my next dealer visit, but it just proves the point of the thread.

You may want to get that exhaust checked ASAP as someone on here, i forget who had their exhaust drop off the hanger on the one side of the car

Cars of yesteryear were built much better than today and I don't think the tag of legendary VW build quality really applies any more. They might be better built than some of today's new cars though :smiley:

The legend ended at MK2. MK3 Golfs were sh!tty rust-buckets. I see far more MK2s than MK3s still on the road in my area. Lucky VW turned it around a little for the MK4.

Exacly the late mk1s and mk2s were very simple, but well engineered cars.
The newer VWs are designed by accountants and built for the modern desk pen pushing person who will be fooled by touchy feely plastics equal engineering quality.
I actually find it funny because the reason German cars took off in the uk was because of reliability and build quality + dealer service compared to british models like Austin and Morris.
Now imo VW has turned into BL and have similar issues.
This video to me after watching it all the way though sums up modern VW, they are making the same mistakes BL made and if they are not careful Hyundai & KIA in the next decade will take their custom as VW did with BLs 30 years ago.

To answer the original question, yes imo you are been too fussy. You have bought a mass produced consumer white good that most people will get rid of away after 3 years. Its not a concourse car its a mass produced object.
I had similar issues and had not moved with the times and expected more sadly that does not happen with modern VWs.
