Title: engine swap
Post by: davidgtrr34 on 22 February 2014, 16:08
I have 2004 gti with auq engine. The engine is blown  and I was wondering is there much more work to putting in a different engine code because I live in Ireland and I cant find an auq engine anywhere here, the only place I can find them is in England. Would my wiring loom work with other engines or would I have to swap everything.

AUM code engines are identical to the AUQ so I'd start there.

I'd want proof of mileage before buying any engine, but it looks ok.

that's what I was thinking but I cant proof really unless I saw it in the car. It comes with a 1 month warranty so when I get it I will do every test known to man to find out the health.

you will need to throw rods an stuff in any engine anyway so why not just rebuild your own

you might need to do it to any engine you buy unless its already been done as your going for 300+ bhp

I don't no what to do yet because I could just map it to 300bhp on stock engine.
If I want 400bhp its roughly £1000 to rebuild it myself
If I want 500bhp it would cost about £3000.
I don't want to spend any more money on this car because I want to start my next project

if it was me i would rebuild my own or another engine with rods an stuff so if you want to add more power its 1 less thing to worry about

the second its mapped im getting rid of it. If I was keeping it I would fully rebuild the block and the head for massive power but im sick of this car
