Title: advice needed doing up my mk2
Post by: ianmaxtec on 22 February 2014, 11:38
I have finally decided to do up my 86 gti, and need some advice. Doors, door seals and wheel arch trim are the biggest issues. I have got some prices for new wheel arch trim, and the prices are off the wall, 400 pounds for 4 plastic wheel arches ! so I have looked on ebay and found a set, but they are for a big bumper car and mine is a small bumper car, will they fit my car ? I also need a drivers door (1/4 window type) and all the door and window seals for the entire car, again I have got some prices for new seals and the prices are frightening. So if anybody can advise about the door, the seals and the wheel arches I would be very grateful.

A lot cheaper to try and source 2nd hand items of a car being broken, with the seals you may be better off getting new ones as they do perish. Old arch trims come up like new with a heat gun aswell

the arches will fit but you will need the side plastics to match up to them. not sure how the arches would match up to the small bumpers though. maybe they could be trimmed down/reshaped to look right.

With second hand ones being 25 years old, it really is a lottery whether it's as mint as you'd like it to be.

If you are going down the concourse route, then new is the only way.

Managed to get a set of 4 arches (new) from a seller in Poland, they have no yet arrived, but only cost €50 plus €10 for delivery. If they are a good fit I will get them painted. I will report back when they arrive. STILL looking for doors with little luck

Painted? Why go to the trouble of finding new (presumably non genuine and ill fitting) ones if your are going to paint them?
