hello guys,
i just bougt a rearview camera oem set for my mk7.
now i want to install them but i cant find any information about it.
does somewone have more information for me? like the radio take out or something else.
thanks!!
-
Hi,
its not an easy job to retro fit the oem reversing camera, also you have to rip all the car apart to install it properly.
My advice would be to return the camera and live without it.
-
Its a big job but not beyond the limits of a determined DIY'er - I agree the messy part is removal of trim to get the camera cable back to the head unit.
Not seen any 'how to' guides for the Mk.7 yet.
-
Not to mention the coding that's required, there was a user on Mk7 forum who's been trying to retrofit the camera but just can't get it working. I do believe he has it in situ though. If this were doable, without too much effort, I'd be very keen.
Didn't the supplier of the cam offer any advice? Carsystems.pl have advised me they know how to code it, but won't tell me unless I purchase the camera! No ta.
I'm used to reversing without the rear camera now, albeit slower and generally with more care, which can't be a bad thing. Certainly be my first tick for the GTI (would change the GTD now if I could ) in a few years time.
Good luck!

The hardest part is routing the cable from the headunit back to the tailgate... and even then it isn't as hard as you might think, if you have decent trim removal tools and some patience! Loads of people did it with the MK5 and 6.
However the MK7 headunits are still a bit of an unknown entity, I've not heard or seen of anyone yet who's pulled it out and what's possible to retrofit or not. For one thing, most of the wiring is now in the glovebox with the CD player so it's very likely that's where you'd be routing the camera cable from.

Hello GolfMK7,
Can you tell me if you have cruise control installed in your car without ACC.
Left button MFL CNL tekst?
Ik heb deze vraag een paar keer gesteld maar krijg geen reactie van je!
-
I had my GTI in for a camera retrofit at VW's expense using their selected choice of part and third party to do the install. They failed to get it working and reckoned it can never work(!).
At that point I gave up (never had a camera before, can live without it now) and took the compensation they offered.
However if you come back and say you did it in 10 minutes with no bother at all I wouldn't be at all surprised.. VW also told me that 17" wheels won't work on the GTI too, but the car in the driveway says otherwise.
Good luck

Well if it's of any use to any one I fitted one on my Seat Leon mk3. I have a golf Match coming and I plan on fitting one on that. It really isn't difficult! The coding is simple as is the wire routing
-
I fitted one to my MK7 SE a few weeks ago.
It was a fiddly job. The hardest bit was refitting the trims around the inside of the tailgate. It works perfectly though.

Did you follow any guides or did you just follow the loom up through the car and wing it? And I'm guessing it had to have VCDS activation?
-
My kit came with a guide. The loom just runs along the passenger side sill and plugs into the back of the navi unit in the glovebox. I couldn't get access to the back of the fuse box for the positive feed so I had to tap into the navi loom for that.
It did need VCDS coding. The kit referred to the official vw coding system so I found the VCDS coding info on the web. There are two entries that need changing if you have parking sensors.

Thanks Stephen, that's handy info.

Hi!
I would like to let you know I have just retrofitted the OEM kit into my MK7 R.
Fitting took about 2-3 hours.
Start with removing top, left and bottom boot trims.
remove old unit
fit new unit
cut plug off old unit
solder those wires to the new loom
route cables along existing loom down the right side of the boot
at the grommet take the blue/black wire to the existing loom plugs
solder the blue/black to the blue/black of the existing loom
at the car side of the grommet remove the black trim on the roof
continue running the remaining loom to the front down through the side panel
beside the rear seat
under the side sill 5 dr
through the b pillar
under the front sill
up the side of the bonnet release trim
into the dash behind where the old fusebox in the mk5 was
along the side of the feet vent
I used a conduit to run from the drivers side to the passenger side under the carpet
remove the sd / dvd player
remove the glove box detailed below:
remove the panel on the side like the old fusebox cover but on passenger side
remove the T20
2 x T20 on the bottom of the glovebox
open the glovebox remove the 3 x T20 from the top
remove the T20 from behind the sd / dvd player
remove the trim lowest part of the center console
unplug the light and the open sensor from the glovebox
remove the rubber tube for glovebox cooling
unclip the fusebox from the holder via the 3 tabs
remove the top pink connector holder from the left of the fuseboard
place the white fuse connector from the new loom into F18
replace the locking clip
replace fuseboard
put in the 7.5 fuse into the new fuse placeholder
unclip the blue block on the back of the sd / dvd player
unclip the two sides of the locking tabs
push in your new video feed (the last two wires) black and white into the block (furthest right 2 pins top and bottom)
re clip the blue plug
re insert into the full block
put everything back
take to VW for coding £59 for 1/2 hour coding and software update for the cam on the nav
if you want / need the reverse cam lines to move with the wheels you need the calibration @ £85 for 3/4 hour
Notes:
VW added the retrofit/refit code and the system accepted it and downloaded the software, but they could not see the video feed or connect to the control module
they returned the car to the front for me, seems the turning the car off and on made the video feed work.
I hope this helps
-
Vcds will allow the coding if someone knows where to look. Certainly won't cost what VW have charged you though.
-
I got the codes from here for my retrofit:
http://www.motor-talk.de/forum/rueckfahrkamera-nachruesten-t4634449.html?page=3
They are in the second post from the bottom. The page is in German but Chrome does a fair job of translating it.
-
coding isnt the issue calibrating the system to function as normal is...
-
Are the lines on the video feed meant to curve?
They don't on my factory fit camera but the parking sensor display does show the arc of the steering.
-
No, lines on video feed are fixed it's just the parking sensors that bend.
-
Cool - from the description above I thought mine was knackered!
-
Hi ............ I see this is an old post ..... Hope you don't mind me asking a question ........... I see you fitted your retro reverse camera on your mk7 ........ I'm just finishing mine ........ you mention about the white wire going into the fuse box the adding the 7.5 fuse ....... is this a permeant live ???? as I cant get to the back of the fuse box, so was going to connect elsewhere with a inline fuse.... what are your thoughts ?????
-
Hi
I am thinking about fitting this kit, but strangely I cannot find any video guides...!
The instructions don't look great, so I would be really grateful for any tips, photos etc! Or any online guides.
Many thanks
-
Yeah the instructions are crap, luckily when fitting mine I found I already had the camera, the only thing that was missing was the video lead and the programming
-
Thanks, hoping for some photos at least!
Cheers
