Title: Driveshaft/gearbox flange
Post by: theclash on 19 February 2014, 09:27
Got gearbox oil seeping from flange seal, question is do I have to remove both driveshafts off the car  to do the seal or can I get away with undoing them and tying out of the way (is there enough room to take of the flange )
Car 1992 8v

I always remove the driveshaft, creates a lot more working space. We sell the drive flange/gearbox seal, drive flange sealing plug and the circlip as a kit -  http://www.vwheritage.com/vw_spares_Gearbox-Flange-Seal-Kit-Left-86-87-020498085G_act_shop.product_pID_16372705.htm?crumbStartPage=2&crumbStartRow=19

Before you start the job it may be worth investing in the tool to compress the drive flange spring as they are notoriously difficult to get back together (the spring is v strong!).
