Good morning,
Back in 1998 I bought a GTi 1.8T AGU in flash red with the red insert Recaros. 78,000 miles later it is still part of our stable. For the first 15 years it was babied and it was my pride and joy with full VWSH. Outward appearance is totally standard!
However last September, my son took over the ownership and the tweaking began!
He started to tell me about a company called R-Tech and the fact that they could transform the performance. Now I am keen on performance without being silly as I also have an S3 8P remapped to stage 1 with a DV+ diverter and pipercross panel filter.
I agreed that the 1.8T could go to R-Tech and so the deed was done. The power delivery was much improved but totally different to the linear type of remap on the S3. You do have to let it build up but once it is up to 2800 rpm it is well away. The Bosch diverter was a bit suspect (The car is on its 3rd) and so I bought one of these based on the DV+ success on my S3.

The idea is that you do not change the spring holding the piston in place but you add more or less spring tension via different length screws into the top of the unit if you want to improve throttle response.
The idea is to use the longest screw that does not cause turbo flutter at WOT.
Since my son has owned the car, he has not let me drive it as he reckons that my right foot is too heavy!
However, about a month ago, we found a very nice 2008 TT 2.0 TFSi for him and so I got the 1.8T back :evil:
Yesterday, I took out different screws for the DV+ and tried to set it up to the optimum on a run down to Stratford. I started off with the shortest screw at 6mm and gave it the beans listening for pigeons! Not to be heard and so I fitted the longest screw at 12mm and still no pigeons. Only the "wishhhh type of noise that is now more audible since fitting the pipercross. Certainly no difference between the 6 and 12c mm screws. The throttle response was improved and the car did feel less laggy. To be totally safe, I fitted the 10mm screw instead of t he 12mm screw and the car still went well.
Has anyone else fitted one of these diverters and how did you set yours up?
Any other easy tweaks that I can do to the car?
And finally............ the torque figure is now at 228 Ft/Lb and is quite peaky, any chance that this will cause damage to any of the components. The bhp only rose to 182 at R-Tech due to the K03 turbo having a weaker actuator spring. Nick suggested that this might be due to lots of town driving rather than motorway miles as on the same day they had remapped a higher mile car that produced better headline figures. Any easy fix for this?

most people just use the forge 007p dv or 008 with the correct spring.
never had any use of those dv's so couldnt comment on how good they are.
as for how safe the engine is, thats like asking how long is a peice of string.
higher torque and bhp figures will cause premature wear over the standard 150 bhp, but if maintained the engine will not be too much worse...
as for easy fix for actuator, yes, replace it...

As stated we tend to use the forge 007p or 008 dv. It is the only DV that is proven to work correctly. And all you need to change is the standard green spring to the yellow spring. As for the actuator you can get a forge one of them with again an uprated spring. The total cost of the new parts shouldnt set you back more than £250 on ebay and you should notice a difference.

How far are you from Midlands VW? Topher (admin on here) works there and I'm sure he would look after you.

Vw midlands is in cannock so a short drive to topher from solihull. Also i have heard good reviews about vw midlands
