looking on eBay the pictures can vary but obviously it could just be a picture, what should i be looking for when buying one for my 1997 2.0 16v abf.
Don't want to buy incorrect one also looking for one if any has one available.
-
I bought mine from main dealer and as far as I know there is only one type.
Its also a pig to get out!
But I do know how!
(there is a thread up in the really helpful section, by me!)
-
i will defiantly be looking for that how much did it cost new.
-
there's only one type for a gti. They all look similar though. They are around the £80 mark if i remember correctly.Have you tried eurocarparts ?..
They can be a pain to get out but then again some come out real easy.
-
Just called euro car part they priced me as below.
Bosch £102 + Vat
Cheap replacement £55+ Vat
Sender Unit £43 + Vat (will need to buy this for both units above)
Told me i will need to check to see if mine has been replaced already as i might need a sender unit as well?
Is this true.

You can buy just the pump without it's holder or gauge (I sell a basic delphi pump for £65) or buy it in stages with the bits added but it increases the price significantly

Next is with swirl pot & holder £196

and then the full set up with sender £211

Bosch only includes the holder but not the swirl pot!
-
i manage to get hold of the complete unit £54 + Vat this includes the sender will be here before 4pm i will update you on make and all that then :).

Like i mentioned mate, i removed the pump from the tank I sold yesterday and once you've knocked the big locking ring off it's just a case of carefully pulling the sender up and outwards whilst taking extra care not to damage the float arm (it's fiddly but far from impossible and seemed to go back in a lot easier)
Once you've pulled that out the way it'll still be attached by the two hoses, get your hand inside the tank around the actual pump and rotate it quarter of a turn anti-clockwise and it will detach from the tank base - job done
-
Did you order some new hose clips to replace the ones that will need breaking off on top of the sender?
-
I have all sorts of clips at work and should be ok to replace them thank you for letting me know
found this link on here

Look at the complete unit BB's photo.
You see the black rubber things on the side? There are thre of those and you have to prise them out with your fingers and then the pump just lfts out.
