Hello there,
I'm considering buying an Edition 35 and would be grateful if current/former owners could give me an idea of the 'real world' mpg for these cars.
I know it won't be good, but wonder just how bad it is. :undecided:
Thanks.

I'm averaging about 32, mix of A roads and B roads, Stage 1 tuned. Will get down in the 26's if you start hooning which isn't bad considering the grunt it has!
-
I have the standard Gti as opposed to the edition 35 but fuel consumption is very good compared with the performance and weight of the car. I drive short journey's to work and back in town with ave speed of 15 mph and distance of approx 3 miles each way and on a full tank i get just over 300 miles.
Having said that my previous car was a nissan GTR so anything would appear very good comparatively

Anything between 26 and 31 daily driving. All motorway it'll average 33/34mpg

I was getting late 30's in mine bit I rarely put my foot down. On a proper geeky pedestrian paced run I got early 40's but it was fooling boring and I only did it once!

I think they put a diesel in yours by mistake, have you checked under the bonnet?

Not good, 23 - 25 for the London commute, upto 30 for other journeys.
I did not buy the car for it's mpg, or to drive it slow... So if I was a bit more gentle I could tease a bit more out, but why? GTIs just love being let loose. I use the wife's smart car 4 days a week for the commute as she takes the train. I'm probably going to turn about 5 - 6K a year so the the cost for fuel isn't great.
The 35 is great to drive and I love every time we go out. If your mileage is going to be low do it, if your worried about fuel cost try a mk7 I think they have a much better mpg stat.

Thank you all for your replies.
As I only do about 6k miles p.a., low 30's would not be a problem. I don't commute or do much urban driving at all, so I should be able to exceed 30 without being too saintly!
Thanks again - I'm encouraged.

6k a year mileage and your worried about mpg...budget 30 mpg day to day depending on where you drive.

Clearly a TDI replica .

I mostly get just under 300 miles a tank, but it's mostly small journeys. In a long run up to Newcastle with four people plus luggage was getting 34mpg at 70-80mph, was happy with that. With the power it's a fair balance, so if your even slightly worried about fuel you should stick to an oil burner.

I do a lot of 2-3 mile journeys and my average fuel computer says 24 ish mpg..... Never seems to get much better... Don't drive stupidly either so not sure how the hell peeps get 32 and higher ... Even a 45 minute A road run I can't above 28 ish ... Mayb mine has a problem or the trip comp is way out... 240-260 ish notch before red so could prob eek another 35 miles out so I suppose...
-
There's been loads of talk on this in the past, this was taken after a typical commute to work, trip reset etc:-

That seems low. Not an ed35, just normal gti, but I also do lots of daily short journeys in stop/start traffic but now getting just over 29mpg average. Best I ever got on a long motorway run was 34. Usually get 300-310 out of a tank

in terms of economy, not quite as good as my old Scirocco 2.0tsi, better than the Pirelli

On my old ED30 I used to get 35mpg+ easily. This equated to about 430-450 miles from a complete tank. The ED35 is frigging thirsty! I'll get anywhere from 31mpg up to my best of 37.5mpg. I notice that it takes a much longer journeys to get the mpg up to a level I could get from the ED30 (in half the distance).
I'm basically seeing the petrol light come on at about 370 and the tank empty at about 400, although I've not owned it during the summer so this should improve.
Fantastic car though

I could rarely get my ed30 over 30 mpg, the ed35 is stage one and better. Its on winter tyres at the moment and that has definitely helped improve the mpg.

my normal gti on a 10mile round trip to work and back i get just under 30mpg. on runs around the city say 20miles on A roads in the evenings i get hight 30s and on motorways at 70mph (+20%) mid 30s. i have seen over 40mpgs on a couple of occasions but the roads were clear and hit green lights all the way.
