Title: Mid Range Acceleration GTD vs GTi
Post by: Duroo72 on 13 February 2014, 08:24
Ok so we know the GTi wins the 0-60mph sprint -  but how about the mid range acceleration between the two cars? 30-50pm, roll on etc....

There was some talk on this in the early days, I can’t remember the thread. On paper the MK7 GTD is almost identical to the MK6 GTI in 4th/5th/6th gear acceleration from 40-70mph (slight edge to the GTD, if I remember correctly), but the MK7 GTI is a little better than the GTD in every gear, probably more through the substantial hike in torque than the 10PS it gained over the MK6 GTI.

I'm pretty sure that GTD 4th gear acceleration was comparable to MK7 GTIs 5th gear acceleration, same with GTD 5th vs GTI 6th.

Thanks Monkeyhanger - loving the GTD but in 3 years it might be the GTi or even the Seat SC280.

Up a hill there might be far less in it. My Scirocco 170TDI could leave my mates MK6 GTI behind up a steep incline stretch of the A19 from the Silverlink.

Absolute torque is irrelevant, you need to take into account the gearing...
