I'm sorry but a 5 door a1 looks ridiculous.

I like it. But I like yellow, and I'm a girl.
But would I swap my GTi for it? NEVER.

I was starting to wish I had ordered one until I read the MPG which is a claimed 33!?!? That's code word for 23 and that it's manual only and only £5,000 cheaper than the R or S3 which is faster, more spacious, available in DSG flavour and more econimical.
I fail to understand it's purpose really? How have they managed to get such poor fuel economy from it? The GTI claims 47mpg in manual flavour with the same engine power.

Maybe the 4WD is responsible....
-
It's actually 40.3 mpg combined (see link below), I agree that it's probably the 4wd (and maybe it doesn't have stop start) that makes it thirstier on paper than the GTI.
I bet in everyday conditions it'll be the same as the GTI. Still a couple of grand overpriced though, but reckon it will be a great car to own.
Audi 'S' cars are almost always criticised by the motoring press, but own one for a couple of years and you'll understand what they are about - fast, subtle, unflustered progress.

The Golf R & S3 are 4 wheel drive with a combined 40 MPG. Hm , the link I have said 33?

One must be wrong.
-
Maybe 33 is a real world figure for combined official 40mpg? Will probably be buying the missus an A1 2.0TDI or 1.4ACT S-line black in the not too distant future, won't stretch it to one of these.
5 door A3 looks a lot worse than a 5 door A1 IMO - it doesn't look so much like an estate.
-
couple of tax bands higher as well..again I am guessing due to weight and 4wd system?
same engine tune as the pp gti I assume?

The gay one is also tiny inside. Hardly any rear leg room and a boot that's only good for a bachelors supermarket shop.

What you saying ya bawbag
The 5 door isn't actually that small and my 3 grown up kids have never complained about the rear leg room. It depends if your a big fat cnut and need the seats right back
Granted the boot isn't that big but that's why I have a wife!!:grin: My car doesn't go anywhere near supermarkets.

My Brother-in-law has just got a Black Edition. I had a quick look round and thought it seemed really small. No bigger inside than my Mk2 Golf. I'm only 6' 1" and only just started growing my middle aged fat guts, so don't have the seat all the way back, even so, I thought it looked tight for room in the back.
Mind you, I prefer a larger car for daily duties. I have to fold the seats down on my Golf to get my ladders in, whereas my Passat's boot will swallow them with ease.

3 or 5 door makes a huge difference as the roof is sloped slightly lower in a 3 door.
As I said my late teens early 20's kids have never moaned about it and they can moan
Its certainly nowhere near the size of a Golf and wouldn't even consider an S1 over a GTI.

My wife used to have a Black Edition A1. Boot was woeful but interior accommodated 4 big adults easily
