Good day,
My first post of this forum...so "hello"
My son has just scrapped his Mk3 Gti 8v and we went to collect a Mk3 VR6 yesterday for him, it had been garaged for last 3/4 years, so booked straight into MOT to see what was need to get it legal.
It failed on the following :-
1) N/S front headlamp not working on dipped
2) O/S front headlamp not working on dipped
3 Front Headlamp switch faulty
4) Exhaust emission CO contents after 2nd fast idle
Ok so not surprised about emission (almost dropped enough!) due to being sitting, so any suggestions on what to do to bring this down appreciated?
But main issue at the moment is the lights..
*The car has angel eyes in it atm
* Side lights work
* High Beam flashes with stalk but does stay on
* Neither dipped beam work
* Rear lights work
I feel it is either the stalk or the switch....
Would light switch fault stop high beams not staying on?
Would stalk fault cause dipped beams not to work?
Help greatly appreciated as we are running out of time for retest.
Thanks in advance

one thing you can check is to pull out light switch... check white/black wire with multimeter against GND... with switch on 'on' position you should have 12V (regardless of whether stalk is in dipped or full beam position). if you don't it's the switch, if you do it's the stalk....
if he does not have fogs I have a light switch that's yours for postage, happy to get rid of it after selling my last mk3

forgot to mention, the switch obviously only will work if you have 12v on the thick black-yellow wire going into light switch. worth checking that too

Great will dig out/find my multimeter (just moved home lol!)
Thanks again

Have you checked the bulbs? :D
As for the emissions, take it for a good thrash just before the MOT test to burn off any crap in the engine/exhaust.
