wanting to know what people have got?
Can anybody beat 10000 miles on there mk4 golf?
would it be collectable in years to come if I put it away?
-
10k WOW!!! I'm on 147k going strong!!
-
Im new to vw and its been garaged all its life its been serviced every year it a 1999 t reg 1.8 20valve I paid alot for the car and just thinking is it to good for me as a everday car as i was looking for a 1.8t and came across this golf im the first previous owner on the car and in a debate to keep it or store it as it might be rare one day thanks

I hope you did some serious background checks to make sure the milege is legit... mine is currently at 66k
-
sure did checked everything was a old man bought from new and never went anywhere in it :)

Collectability is all about supply and demand. There are two things that determine collectability.
1. Rareness/availability.
2. Character/desirability.
The mk4 was more common than water and not hot enough to have been crashed to near extinction. So fails on the first count.
The mk4 gti was seen as capable but a bit of dissapointment when it came out and is a bit too bland to be ever truly desirable as a classic. OEM spec desirability is key for classics low milage alone will not suffice.
If you garage it, all you'll have is a mk4 thats wont be worth a whole lot and will never really been driven. So you might as well take it out and enjoy it.

I can see maybe a mk4 r32 becoming a rare site in 10+ years..other then that i agree with chris other variant mk4's are just to common
-
Even at 10k miles, given the age I would expect pretty much every bush and bearing will need replacing
Bob's has done just over 40k i think and he is having to replacee a few bits.......
Low mileage doesn't mean its any good sadly
Agree with Chris's points. If it was an Anni edition then you might have half a chance of making some money but the MK4 was extremely popular and is still a common sight on our roads today

163k and going strong as an Ox.
Give me high mileage with good history and been looked after over low mileage any day.
Trouble with low mileage is as soon as you give it some beans it starts failing.
-
95k. As said it's not the type/model to be sitting on.
-
sold my 4 mo with 195k on it
-
currently at 131k and gonna keep it as standard looking as poss with only very minor other variant mods and then when the engine dies strip it rebuild it and maybe turbo then track it and have some serious fun
-
65k I think...
-
Currently on 79k, done almost 30k miles in it now!
-
207,500 and the engine is as strong as a ox (AGU 20vt,still on original turbo)
handles like a shopping trolly, but ive plans to sort that
its a car, drive the bloody thing, dont store it,cos before you know it some tree hugger in the fecking EUSSR wil have banned cars of a certain age. you heard it here first!!

207k........That is excellent! I was warned off mine by so many mates as my AGU has 152k on her and they all said it was far to high mileage for a petrol turbo.....Still bought it though
-
Picked up my GTI TDI PD150 last week with 237k on the clock, one owner car with full history. My previous 130PD had 192k when I sold it last year - biggest mistake I've made car wise and wish I'd kept it.
-
64k 03 plate :)
-
128k AUQ
-
109k, 30k in 4 years, a composite of foul language has been written in that time and a haemorrhaging wallet. nearly there though
-
168K bought it at around 160 K didn't have a great deal of money had to spend a few quid to sort out issues but now sorted should be good for a few years to come now
-
T reg 1.8t AGU just turned bang on 89k last night!
I would be a bit suss of a 10k T reg history's can be faked very easy if you know someone with a garage stamp!
-
Mines just ticked over to 81600 had it 3 years 4/5 months and ive only just done over 10k in it lol perks of a work van to to rack the miles up in !
-
Mines just gone over 111,11miles. I've had it 2ish years and bought it with 71k.
