Title: Boot space for labrador??
Post by: rocketfuel on 09 February 2014, 13:59
Not a standard query about the mark 7 GTI, but am trying to convince myself that it is just about practical enough.... The kids can squeeze in the back, but can a fat labrador comfortably sit in the boot when needed??

Anybody any experience?

our boxer at near 40kg fits in a mk6 so can imagine the boot space will be the same or better in the mk7 just go for a 5 door

Our lab retriever cross, guide dog fits fine. She seemed to prefer it to the 3 series touring we currently have.

Do you use the high or low boot setting for the bigger dogs? I need to decide which boot liner to buy and some are different according to which height point you use.

Lower

I get a cage in at that setting, I can measure the hight of it if you want.

Our Lab is not fat but at 40kg he's quite big... He's as happy in the boot of the Golf as he has been in any other car, plenty of space. Boot on lower setting.

I have a hatchbag (www.hatchbag.co.uk - pricey compared to some but excellent quality) with the bumper protector - he's almost 10 years old and leaps in... but not very accurately, sometimes, so saves the bumper from unnecessary scratches.

My lab is also about 40kg and a pretty tall dog. Haven't tried him in the boot yet, don't want to until I get a liner. Have had Hatchbags in other cars and they are excellent but a bit overkill for this usage. They were great when I had a mucky spaniel who loved to go to the forest for his walks, kept the cars spotless inside.

I got my dog guard from these guys http://www.travall.co.uk/dog-guards-t363 , custom fit for the mk7 and it's absolutely fantastic. I fit 2 20kg staffies in the boot of my GTI, and they have plenty of room to both lie down, stand and jump over eachother in excitement as we draw near the park...

Why not take the dog along to your local dealership for a test drive. I'm sure the dealership will be chuffed!

I always take the dog for a test drive, none of the dealers have ever complained, Even when I took 2 labs in.
Mind you it was a guide dog and a retired Guidedog.

I had also looked at the TRavall guards, when they are fitted and you don't have the dog in can you still have the parcel shelf in place?
