Title: Starter motor solenoid issue help ASAP
Post by: dan_thevdub_man on 07 February 2014, 01:27
So it's been happening for a few months now, I get in the car turn the key lights up but nothing...wiggle it about and then roar engine kicks in and I'm off. Untill today. 3 and half hours testing everything. Solenoid, red/black wire from ignition everything. Only way car starts is by jumping the starter. Anyway my friend tried bridging the inition wire to the solenoid but again nothin. Only reasonable explanation is that somehow between the ignition barrel and the solenoid it is losing 12 vilts. As such, tomorrow I'm fitting a starter button and bypassing this because well it's a cheap fix and is probably more theft proof now as not only do they not have the immobiliser but I plan on disguising the button. Anyway, before I resort to this does anyone have any ideas ?

Wiggling the key sounds like ignition switch to me.

You say your friend bridged something or another but this may not have been done correctly.

Wiggling the key to have it fire into life is ignition switch to me.

Agreed, quite annoying to fit as well considering how cheap and small they are.
