Title: Another Lamp on Dash - Grrrr
Post by: 1.8t-net on 04 February 2014, 14:03
Ok, the latest thing with my 1.8T AUM is every now and then the traction control lamp comes on and the car runs like a bag of you know what.  Erratic idle, juddery accelleration.  So I pull over turn off ignition and disconnect battery.  Reconnect and restart all is ok for a few days!  Then boom, same again.

Last year I had anew MAF
new N75
New coil packs

It feels like electrical, or could be a boost problem.

I cant find anybody in Kent that is slick enough to get to the bottom of this and all the garages want loads just to connect it and look whats wrong.  I'm sure I can fix it, but don't know where to start.

Thanks for your help (again).

best place to start is get it scanned. Have you checked the wiring to the maf make sure its all good?

Was it a genuine MAF from VW or a reconditioned one from GSF/ECP?

Get it scanned again, but that sounds like the MAF to me.

Mind you, the throttle inlet butterfly looks a bit oily gunky.  I reckon there is a breather problem.  but nobody seems keen to help locally.  I dont mind getting dirty and am competent to do so. Just dont want to start in the wrong place.

If you was closer to me id be more than happy to scan it for codes and hwlp you clean the throttle. Get some carb cleaner from any auto shop and take the throttle body off spray it in and clean it with a rag or tooth brush. Buy a new throttle seal from dealers and put it back together. Now the important bit!!! TURN IGNITION ON WAIT FOR ABOUT A MIN WITHOUT TOCUHING THE ACCELERATION PEDAL TURN IT BACK OFF THEN TURN IT ON AND WAIT FOR THE USUAL CHECKS THEN START THE ENGINE.
