Lost my keys and don't have a spare. I have managed to open the car using another VW key...this key will allow me to enter the vehicle but does not fit the ignition switch and I cannot unlock the steering column.
The VW dealer in Camberley is reluctant to help me for reasons unbeknownst to me. I have been told that VW is updating their security system and that they have ordered a key using the VIN number of the car, but it may not be able to open the car or start it (if the ignition switch or door locks have been changed) They don't know that I have gotten into the car on my own yet as this was done after the telephone conversation.
So I was wondering if there is anyway I can permanently disable the immobiliser and get a replacement ignition switch along with keys and replace them without having the original key to unlock the steering column. I am hoping that the dealer can just provide a replacement key, but if not I have to think about alternatives.

As the immobiliser actually communicates with ECU it cannot simply be bypassed (a code is transmitted).
If you cannot retrieve the 4 digit PIN and VW won't give you a 6 digit one you can buy one off ebay that has a pin and then code this to the new key and ecu. VW should give you the 6 digit pin if you give the immobiliser ID (imho 14 digit alphanumeric code)
As I also put in PM, you can change the small brass tumbler things in the lock / or look up the codes on them and should be able to get a key with that.
Alternative, get a set of keys, door handles and coded immo of ebay, then it won't need recoding (you will only need to re-pair with ecu)

Wouldn't it be a good idea to talk to another VW dealer? Even a phone call is enough to see if it can be done by a VW authorised garage or not. I'm not sure, just thought about it, if the immobiliser is fitted by you/disabled won't the insurance go up? Might be worth it having someone from VW do it...

insurance won't go up as long as there is an immobiliser fitted, does not really matter if you fit it yourself as you are only putting the car back into state it left factory in (or was officially modified to at a later point but with oem immobiliser that is unlikely the case as no insurance saving would justify spending money for immobiliser and ecu).

vw in Camberley will not supply the code to me. VW Germany sent them a precut key. Luckily it fit the car. I'll get in touch with you and get the key cloned at some point in the very near future. Thanks for all of the support.;)

go to a different vw dealer...
tell them immo id and ask them for the code. i can't see a reason why they are such pillocks when it comes to these things on a mk3 golf...

ir depends on the person working gor them....the mechanics working there have never seen a mk3 in the shop ever..and they sorted the car in about 5 minutes..unfortunately you can't watch them while they are working on your car....But 53 quid for a new key for a mk3 is too much....I will do mu best to never lose it ever again...:)
