Title: Excessive white smoke
Post by: scarr89 on 02 February 2014, 16:12
Getting quite alot of white smoke at low revs in almost every gear...Especially when pulling off in 1/2nd. Once I get over like 2.5k revs it clears up. It is like this whhen cold or warm...

No Fault codes apart from P1256 - Coolant temp sensor open/short to ground (This is an intermittent problem, get the red STOP warning on the dash, but a re start re sets it...should I be worried about this?)

Any idea people?

My coolant level is good, not loosing any and I just topped up my oil, seems I'v been burning quite a bit since its service in June  :lipsrsealed:

Cheers

could be the brass oil seals are starting to give up on the turbo, either that or the oil used last service is too thin so its serping past the seals.
as for you dash light, either try cleaning up the prongsin the header tank or replace the tank

That is what I have read else where...Any idea on how long this could last? I am planning a DSD upgrade...is this the excuse I need to do it sooner rather than later?

Here in lies the issues...Come april I will have 2.8 to spend on it  :lipsrsealed:

So, I have done more reading, and it sounds like the turbo seals are going...I'll monitor the oil.

I also need a new clutch(well DMF), it has been awful for miles now!

So I'm thinking, 'budget' turbo kit, new clutch and a LSD?

I can get the clutch for cheaper and then fit my self, I guess fit the diff while I'm there...Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

They make a huge difference, best thing I did I reckon.

The smoke has seemed to have cleared up! All I did was top up the oil and put a shot of redex in. My MPG has gone through the roof, which was notable down to almost the low 40s on a Mway run, now back up to 57.

I did some other reading and people saying it is 'just' a boost leak...

I'll take it all apart this week and give it a good clean up and replace the O rings perhaps.

Very strange though... :undecided:
