Title: My woes...
Post by: Phil 117 on 01 February 2014, 13:06
So had the GTD for two months.

Haven't posted in around that either as I've been busy with the new job.

The car itself is fantastic, I've just a fair few events with the car which is making me just hate it.

First, the mechanical stuff.
The Pro Nav doesn't work on a cold morning. The screen is frozen, and only the middle part works. As it heats up, the screen starts to slowly work expanding from the middle.

I've had the front right DRL die and that's been replaced under warranty.

I've had two faults with the windows. The first the front right had a knocking sound when closing. Apparently there was a wire catching.
And the second the passenger window just got stuck, and wouldn't come back up.

Now the other stuff:
As those who can remember, I took the GTD down to France. A french van hit me (wasn't too bad), but still £800 worth of repairs. Oh, and it was a hit and run. Down a tiny french road in the town. He didn't stop, there was a car behind so I couldn't reverse, and the road was too small to do a 3 pointer. And to make matters worse, the reg I thought I gave was for a Ctiroen Picasso, not a Renault Master which hit me.

And this morning, I've come down to my car (which was parked on the road last night due to staying at my brothers house), and it has been keyed all down the side of the car on four different panels.

I'm now at the stage where I just can't stand the thing as stuff keeps going wrong, it's a bit of a bogey car.

Jeez what's wrong with some people! Very sorry to hear about all that, just do what feels right for you with it, plenty on here seem to have good times with theirs so better luck next time.

That's terrible Phil.  It's shocking that you have had to endure so many mechanical faults with a brand new car. VW should be replacing the pro nav for you under warranty and I wouldn't be taking no for an answer.

The collision in France was extremely unfortunate and for the guy to hit you and then drive off is very poor!

As for the prats who keyed your car some people have no respect for other peoples property and it's absolutely shocking . The only very small crumb of comfort was that it didn't happen outside your own home. I would be more worried if had happened outside your place because if you got it repaired they would probably just come back do it again. A few minutes alone in a room with these tossers would be good

Don't give up on the car just yet. Get it repaired and get the nav replaced and hopefully it will be the car you were expecting it to be

Having had two cars keyed previously I know how that feels.  It's just beyond belief how some people are so disrespectful or jealous or whatever it is to go and damage someone's property like that.

Always reminds me of this scene from Pulp Fiction!

As for the issues with the car itself, I would be getting rather annoyed by now, seems like you have a bit of a dud there, having said that these issues are entirely fixable so hopefully VW willl come through for you.

Sorry to see all the bad luck you have had :(

I cant recall, was this the brand new car you got or an ex-demo ?  I remember you were deciding between two different cars at the time.

As for the W(*&^%^ who keyed the car.  I just hope they get what is coming to them one day.....  I really dislike parking my car where it isnt normally kept, especially on a road.  I can imagine in areas where parking is at a premium, "outsiders" can be seen as a nuisance by some.

Feel your pain Phil having had a previous motor scratched to buggery.

Hope you get it sorted with minimum fuss
